The Internet, information technology, digitization, and now Artificial Intelligence have completely revolutionized the way the global community views information, data sharing, and dynamically evolving technologies/applications/solutions that aid everything under the sun. Little wonder the government authorities around the world are not only investing huge amounts of money to reap the bountiful benefits offered by cutting-edge technologies but are also prepared to adopt them for better governance and administration in new fields.

  • Of course, the young generation is always on the lookout for something new to be embraced and go about flaunting it in their inimitable ways, thereby encouraging even more to join forces have been a phenomenon witnessed at frequent intervals right through. So much so that some of the countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Syria, Egypt, and others have firsthand experienced how the increasingly powerful social media platforms have played a huge role. Social media platforms are not only offering the ease of communication to spread far and wide, reaching out to the intended, but also successfully helping them to mobilise in double-quick time by dodging the government enforcement agencies sometimes.  The reach of the social media platforms has been phenomenal, and the usage has consistently headed northwards everywhere.

  • We in India too witnessed how social media platforms helped in the tremendous galvanizing of youngsters fighting against the government authorities for failing them repeatedly while aspiring for a welcoming future. The trigger was the repeated failure to curb NEET-UG and CUEG exam paper leaks. The National Testing Agency, tasked with conducting the examinations for some of the most prestigious professional courses, has consistently betrayed the aspirations of millions of students and their families alike with paper leaks.  Amazingly, what started as an innocuous social media message transformed into a student-led movement attracting a humongous number of youngsters to join the forces demanding action from the Union Government/authorities.

  • In a matter of days, the movement not only gained traction, cutting across the hugely diverse social milieu, but also compelled personalities representing ideologies/philosophies from different fields to voice opinions favouring the agitation of the students. Yes, the Union Government had to bow to the pressure exerted by the fast-gaining movement that spread across the country, resulting in the resignation of the education minister and prompting a slew of anti-paper leak measures. In doing so, the power of the social media platforms was ascertained, paving the way for government authorities not to brush aside the medium/young warriors nonchalantly. Make no mistake, it’s only going to become even stronger in the coming days. We must listen to the youngsters.
