- The modern-day world is fast-paced, extremely pressure-filled, and dynamically predisposed to allow very little time to ponder over matters of concern for the authorities. The authorities would wish to ensure the power remains undiluted. This phenomenon is common across the world, and for India, as the most admired democratic country, has been endowed with such a diversified political landscape that it makes for a very interesting, but intriguing read as well. As we know, the communal versus secular narrative has completely polarized the nation in the last decade and a half, which is stating the obvious. The BJP-led NDA at the Centre has also successfully consolidated its hold over power by initiating splits and weaning away leaders from opposition parties of late.

- The electoral success enjoyed by the BJP in some of the crucial states over the last couple of years has been engineered by the relentless surge of the formidable electioneering machinery of the saffron brigade. Some of the hitherto strongholds of the opposition, like Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha, have been successfully won over by the BJP. Of late, the BJP also triumphantly engineered defections and splits from the meltdown caused by the electoral defeats in West Bengal and Maharashtra to great advantage. When everything appeared to be smooth for the BJP, the NEET-UG paper leaks and the CBSE fiasco caused unrest among the student community, and the subsequent agitation demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister gained traction.

- What was initially considered an innocuous tirade against the rotten system over social media platforms initiated by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) slowly started gaining traction among the youths, students, unemployed, and civilians. The CJP’s rallying against the inept and corrupt examination system for some of the most prestigious medical institutions for professional courses rapidly gained further heft when activist Sonum Wangchuk began an indefinite fast. For reasons best known to the Union Government, there were hardly any tangible measures initiated apart from the usual trope about the culprits being identified, stringent action, familiar platitudes denigrating the system, and promises of addressing the concerns were duly forthcoming.

- However, the Union Government missed the underlying discontentment among the student community and failed to accurately gauge the prevailing mood cutting across social structure. The way Delhi Police handled the Parliament march by resorting to forceful methods completely altered the equation even further. The disturbing visuals of the police highhandedness thwarting the surging agitators were enough to consolidate the majority opinion against the government authorities. The Union Government did succeed in ending Wangchuk’s indefinite fast. However, the resignation of the Education Minister could not be prevented. Since the resignation, a slew of measures has been announced by the PM’s outreach towards the student community. Hopefully, the nation will finally witness foolproof measures to reform the education system.
