  • The whole country was aghast at the way NEET-UG and CUET were conducted by the National Testing Agency when the crucial entrance exam papers leaked time and again, leading to lakhs of students and their families feeling terribly let down by the government authorities. Mind you, Indian families and parents place tremendous emphasis on quality education for their wards, despite facing economic challenges in meeting the desired requirements. The family may be under the pump vis-à-vis leading a dignified life due to economic duress, but will go to any lengths to ensure the children receive quality education. We all have been brought up on a steady diet of receiving good education, finding a decent enough job, and settling down comfortably.

  • Note that India is a predominantly middle-class country interspersed with a huge farming community forming the backbone since more than 50% are farming across the wide swathe of the landscape. We are an aspirational society looking to be counted among the best in the world in terms of economic might. As such, the education system and the corresponding infrastructure should be matching at par, if not superior to some of the most advanced nations globally. However, the Indian education system, especially the higher education institutions like engineering and medicine, hasn’t lived up to expectations despite the nation progressing admirably over the last few decades. Aspirations are not being complemented by reality.

  • The repeated examination paper leaks for some of the most prestigious medical institutions have robbed lakhs of meritorious students of an opportunity to get selected. As it is, the country’s employment scenario and job opportunities commensurate with the graduating students are not rosy by any stretch of the imagination. Here, the failure of the authorities to curb the growing malaise contributed to the youths, unemployed, and concerned citizens to join hands to pile pressure on the Union Government to not only address the grave matter adroitly but also hold person(s) responsible for the sad state of affairs. Thus, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) came into existence with young leaders joining hands to launch an agitation against the education system.

  • What initially started as an innocuous movement by Generation Z slowly started gaining traction, heft, following, support, and momentum, cutting across the length and breadth of the country. Their demand was simple. The resignation of the Union Education Minister and adequate measures to ensure the widespread malaise is nipped in the bud, assuring the student community that the authorities are willing to stand by them at all costs. The CJP got what they were vociferously demanding in the form of the minister’s resignation. A new bill has been enacted with stringent measures to curb the paper leak menace. The CJP has categorically mentioned that it will remain apolitical and take up the cudgel to highlight other pressing socio-economic issues. So long as the CJP stays apolitical, the fledgling outfit can expect support from all around. Simple.
