I can’t imagine, I just lost my mobile. Now, it’s been a week since I am not able to find it. However, these 7 days have been quite different than my regular days, all because my dear mobile wasn’t with me. It’s like my extended hand and brain; I can’t imagine my life without it. But here I am, without a mobile, experiencing life in a different light.
I noticed that when I lost mobile, it affected me in a lot of ways. I would like to narrate 5 things that happened when I lost my beloved smartphone.
1. Found out friend’s house: Well, we have a bunch of friends, with whom we chat, send WhatsApp messages, send emails, and meet them often on Facebook. Thanks to my smartphone, I was able to be constantly in touch with all my friends. However, when I lost my source of communication, I decided to meet my friend at his house. I never realized that he stays so close to my place that I can hop to him in just a few minutes!
2. Lost track of time: Ever since a smartphone entered my life, I had stopped wearing my watch. I always check time on the phone. And since I have lost it, I am trying to figure out what time of the day is it by looking at the sun’s position. Well, not exactly! Then my search for my wristwatch started. Very soon also realized that I have a wall clock in my living room.
3. Which direction should I take?: It seems, smartphones have evolved, but have made human beings dumb. The other day, while going to some unknown place by my car, I was wondering about which direction I should take. I missed my GPS tracking system so much. I took it as a crisis situation because I lost my mobile. But hey, my mind soon came to a conclusion that I can actually ask for the direction, the good old way!
4. Books, newspaper? What are they?: When I was small, I used to love reading. Be it books or newspaper, I was always engrossed in something or other. As I grew up, my Smartphone became my reading buddy. Slowly, I moved from printed stuff to digital stuff. Over the period, I simply forgot about printed information. Now, since I have lost my mobile, I started looking at the newspapers and books, for knowing about the world, once again! Seems like a good break from Google, isn’t it?
5. For a change, I used my memory: Smartphones are nothing less than a personal assistant. They remember everything for you; from your meeting to switching off the appliances in your home. Same was the case for me and hence, I rarely used my brain to memorize anything. After I lost my mobile, I had to remember to switch off my AC, geyser and also the microwave. I used a paper and a pen to memorize my meetings. Well, writing using pen and paper isn’t that bad!
My life has certainly taken a different turn after I had lost my mobile. But, you know what, I am liking this new (old?) life!
