  • One of the most clearly visible differences between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition, both at the national and regional level, is the emphasis the former places on realpolitik. It helps them to not only stay one step ahead of the adversaries but also perpetually succeed in inventing innovative ideas to maintain that distance.  It is a well-known fact that the BJP’s poll machinery and the organizational efficiency in aggressively pursuing its ambitions of conquering newer territories are worthy of emulation.  We have witnessed how the BJP goes about its pursuit to assume power elections after elections.

  • It’s another matter altogether the BJP doesn’t mind one bit even if it requires toppling the duly elected governments by inducements. Yes, splitting or rebellion from the parent party is encouraged without any remorse.  In the last few years, the BJP strategists have succeeded in assuming power by breaking the ruling dispensation.  Look not far than Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and now, Maharashtra.  The relentless urge to be in the thick of action drives the saffron brigade to seek further glories uninhibitedly.  Another unique aspect of the BJP is its penchant to throw surprises whilst selecting candidates during the government formation or nominating them for constitutional posts.
  • Those decisions are usually well-thought-out by the core group of seasoned strategists with a definite focus on ensuring relevant social engineering requirements are met. Also, addressing the labyrinthine caste conundrum so typical of our country is well-taken care of.  Most often than not these deft maneuvers leave the opposition befuddled and flummoxed stating the obvious.  One such masterstroke move could be attributed to the NDA’s presidential candidate in the form of Draupadi Murmu.  No wonder, the candidature has created a deep fissure in the opposition camp like no other BJP strategy in recent times.

  • Soon after accusing BJP of betrayal, Uddhav Thackeray found himself backing the overwhelming sentiment for Murmu among his MPs. Trapped between more Sainik exists and further antagonizing his MVA allies, Uddhav’s support for Murmju signifies his weakening authority and inability to be a steadfast partner in the opposition camp.  Also proves BJP’s shrewdness in cornering the opposition.  Obviously, the BJP is on a mission to usurp Maharashtra as also a few other states where it is still not in power.  Looking at Maharashtra will reveal how Eknath Shinde’s revolt signalled that most Sainiks accepted BJP’s dominance.  In contrast, Uddhav succumbing to pressure is another reality check for NCP and Congress as any hopes of splitting the Hindutva plank through Uddhav are remote.
  • Likewise, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren is similarly stuck. Opposing Murmu could rile JMM’s Adivasi base.  But supporting her strains its Congress alliance.  Of course, a truck with BJP won’t take JMM too far despite present compulsions.  You know, the soft Hindutva approach won’t work out or cut ice with the electorate as BJP’s aggressive plank overwhelms the same.  The moot point to ponder over here is how amenable regional opposition parties choose to oppose or ally with the BJP.  Such a stance will be of little help to others.  Did someone mention a win-win situation for BJP?  Indeed, it is.
