It’s another matter altogether that in a vast country like India where cricket is not only ubiquitous but also hugely popular among all strata of society is akin to no less than a religion. - Cricket fans are aware of how the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League T20 tournament is gradually heading towards the business end. The ten teams are vying to reach the play-off stage by showcasing some extremely brilliant performances over the last month or so. Cricket fans are catered to some of the most extraordinarily mesmerizing performances by local Indian as well as internationally acclaimed cricketers with welcome regularity. Hitherto considered unbreachable boundaries are being destroyed with alarming consistency. One must only look around how scores over 250 runs in 20 overs are being set. Not only that, but the chasing teams have also succeeded in coming close to those monumental scores on a few occasions.
- The paying public, sponsors, broadcasters, and the general cricket-loving public are not complaining though. Amid all this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s senior selection committee met to choose the side for the ensuing T20 World Cup scheduled in the Caribbean Islands and the USA. We all know the Hitman Rohit Sharma was already chosen to captain the side for the marquee event long back. However, cricket pundits and fans alike must be wondering why Rohit Sharma is not playing at his best in the ongoing IPL. Inconsistency in his scoring and striking abilities are starkly visible as he is found struggling to set the tempo in motion. It can be recounted how his imposing abilities in the proceedings have been on the wane since the last few IPL editions.

- Discerning cricket enthusiasts would have noticed this anomaly as Rohit Sharma has consistently failed to set the IPL on fire as he used to do with such ridiculous regularity not too long back. Mind you, several Indian cricketers are knocking on the selection doors through fabulous performances in the last couple of years. Even in the ongoing league, Rohit has simply failed to set the usual buzz when he is batting around by failing to trouble the scorers much. His string of low scores must be a great concern for all concerned. We are aware of what a destructive batter Rohit is on his day winning the contests single-handedly. However, the captain must strike form sooner than later to lead Team India from the front. It’s good for him and the Team.
