- It’s a matter of days before the Election Commission of India announces the dates for the ensuing parliamentary elections to be held in April/May 2024. The entire country is abuzz with the anticipation of the election dates which also means the model code of conduct will come into effect forthwith following the announcement. The Prime Minister has been on a project announcement spree over the last few days, and this will only gain speed in the last few days before the Election Commission announces the dates for the Lok Sabha polls. All other political parties are busy with their poll preparations making last-minute efforts to freeze alliances to present a formidable outfit to take on the opposition as well as impress upon the electorate.

- All political parties are preparing in full swing around the country vis-à-vis project announcements, identification of candidates, reviewing poll prospects, preparing manifestos, choosing issues to corner the opposition, coming out with alternative narration, and stitching together workable alliances. Notably, the BJP’s renowned and relentlessly surging ahead election machinery has already taken off in announcing its first list of Lok Sabha candidates showing how confident it feels about its fortunes in the ensuing elections. The list shows why efficiency and attention to detail are its election calling cards. As if on cue, two BJP candidates launched their campaign immediately, canvassing with prayers, supporters, and graffiti.
- The BJP’s announcement of 195 nominees (114 with incumbents re-contesting) for LS 2024 has kicked off election season full blast. As many as 81 seats, or 44% have new candidates. No wonder, the BJP’s first list has the clinical efficiency its poll machinery is famous for. Splicing, dicing, report cards, and performance reviews. That elusive but all-important formula that defines winnability. BJP has its electoral management pat. It is this attention to detail, detailed planning, and excellent execution that makes BJP a behemoth. And it is worthy of emulation by other political parties too. - Thus, 5-time MP and 4-term CM Shivraj and Delhi assembly LoP Bidhuri must prove credentials again, while the nomination of the infamous Brij Bhushan hangs fire, though all candidates in that region are decided. The first list also has Prime Minister Narendra Modi contesting from Varanasi as also Home Minister Amit Shah from Ahmedabad. Some of the crucial states like Karnataka and Maharashtra have not seen any announcements yet. But newspaper reports suggest the announcement may happen in the next few days.
