  • Die-hard Indian cricket fans must be feeling euphoric and extremely delighted with winning the finals of the T20 cricket World Cup against the South Africans. The long wait of 13 years of not winning the International Cricket Council (ICC) organized event ended with the title triumph. Yes, there were a few occasions when Team India reached the semifinals and finals of the ICC events, during these years. But had failed to cross the finishing lines on more than one occasion. Look not far from how Team India was defeated by the team from Down Under during last year’s 50-over World Cup in Ahmedabad. The dream run of the Indian team was halted in the heartbreaking finals when the marauding Aussies stunned the favourites making the entire country sad.

  • The wounds of the final loss must have hurt the pride of the Rohit Sharma-led Team India tremendously. Moreso for the skipper Rohit who was simply amazing during the 50-over World Cup. The planning for the T20 World Cup jointly organized by the United States of America and the Caribbean Islands started in earnest soon after the shattering defeat. Rohit was appointed Captain for the ICC event soon to allow the team management to plan for the T20 World Cup months in advance. The meticulous planning that went behind the scenes has come to fruition with Team India winning the thriller of a final in Kensington Oval, Barbados. Remember, Team India crossed the final hurdle without losing a single game right through the tournament.
  • This speaks volumes about the domination, clinical precision, finetuning, skillsets, planning, and execution of the outfit that was determined to bring home the coveted cup after a long wait. And what a final it turned out to be. Right through the tournament, Rohit Sharma was aggressive personified, like he was in the 50 over World Cup, taking the battle to the opposition right from the first delivery. Virat Kohli till the finals had a very ordinary outing for his standards. He delivered when it mattered most by anchoring the Indian batting with a score of 76 in the finals. Axar Patel’s crucial innings also contributed immensely to the side’s target. Yes, we know it’s the bowlers who win the matches and this is where Team India must count their blessings.

  • Jasprit Bumrah is in a different zone altogether of late. He is making the ball talk in all formats of the game. He was outstanding throughout the T20 sojourn by not only taking wickets quite regularly but also putting a break on the run-scoring of opposition batsmen skillfully. Little wonder Bumrah was declared the player of the tournament for showcasing what a special talent he is. The final had all the ingredients of a thriller with India holding their nerves even when South Africa was cruising along with less than run a ball to score. Hardik Pandya redeemed himself by displaying his prowess with both bat and ball. All the players chipped in with contributions enabling Team India to emerge champions. Kudos to Team India for making us proud!
