- As the popular saying goes, any consequential development benefiting society also ushers in accompanying challenges. As is the case with any new introduction – advantages/disadvantages, merits/demerits, good/bad, and positive/negative- conflicting accompaniments that must be welcomed and accepted with a pinch of salt. What matters most is how we can, to the extent possible, consistently mitigate negative connotations without compromising the overall objectives that are largely beneficial to society. We all agree that one of the most visible indicators of economic growth is the development witnessed across the board, ushering in globally accepted amenities for people’s consumption. The prosperity of any nation depends on its economic progress, as is well known.

- As we are aware, one of the key indicators of economic activities is the emphatic thrust placed on improving the infrastructure, including smooth, commutable roads. India as a nation is an aspirational society aiming for the big league. Looking back, we can see that we have indeed made tremendous progress by staying in the race and upping the game vis-à-vis economic growth parameters. Now, transportation is the most commonly noticed aspect on roads and needs no further elaboration. As the aspirational society embraces new developments/introductions vis-à-vis a variety of vehicles, including personal as well as public, the density of users on the roads is bound to head northwards. Unfortunately, public transport in India is far from satisfactory.

- Since public transport hasn’t lived up to the expectations of the people, the dependency on private vehicles – especially two-wheelers and four-wheelers – has grown exponentially. On top of it, the modern-day world is characterized by a pressure-filled working environment/atmosphere where the expectations are enormous to deliver satisfactorily. Notably, every metro city in the country has witnessed unprecedented growth, placing an enormous burden on limited infrastructure/amenities to cater to the increasing demand. Now, we know the condition of rampant traffic congestion, severe bottlenecks, unmotorable road conditions filled with potholes/craters, and most worryingly, a complete lack of lane discipline are only adding to the mad rush.

- Little wonder, frustrated commuters harangued from all quarters are finding it extremely challenging to navigate while commuting on wretched roads. The pressure and frustration felt by the commuters are eventually resulting in road rage cases with fisticuffs, hitting, and physical assault incidents leading to injuries. Agreed, we are all under some strain owing to the traffic snarls, bottlenecks, and challenging road conditions. But these issues do not provide us with carte blanche authority to indulge in physical assault. Why not exercise patience, restraint, and calmness alongside keeping the ego at bay when we are in the middle of a road-related incident? Mind you, the ego plays a big role in escalating road rage issues. Keeping our emotions under control would help enormously. Let’s offer a smile and an earnest sorry rather than indulge in heated arguments.
