  • One of the biggest advantages of the introduction of the over-the-top (OTT) platforms in the last few years must be the way diverse but socially relevant content is being explored with great relish across the world. Of course, the pandemic years hugely contributed to the speedy evolution of OTT entertainment platforms since most people around the world were largely consigned to their homes courtesy of the stringent enforcement of prolonged lockdowns. Left with little choice but to remain glued to the television and social media platforms, the attention of consumers seamlessly shifted to other alternatives available at the time. Little wonder, the OTT platforms emerged as the natural choice for entertainment consumption.

  • Mind you, the entertainment industry is a big entity enjoying consistent ascendancy in terms of popularity, following, patronage, and building cultural significance, showcasing the soft power in yet another form. We know how the advent of the internet, mobile smartphones, and the digital applications/solutions specifically targeting entertainment quotient to serve the interests of different categories proliferated exponentially. Not that traditional entertainment mediums like cinemas, theaters, television, and live performances have been consigned to the back burner, you see.  What cannot be discounted is the power of the OTT to scale up from a hitherto confined medium to a lesser-known audience, which received a humongous fillip in the recent past.

  • Personally speaking, and as an Indian, the K-Dramas are not only closer in several aspects to our sensitivities, but also emotionally/culturally/traditionally as well. The strong emphasis placed on familial background, the middle-class depiction of prevailing travails, easily identifiable day-to-day happenings/occurrences, local cuisine/food habits forming an inalienable part, and the stylized picturization with impeccable grooming standards make K-Dramas a delight to partake in. The more one indulges in watching the content, the more one would start appreciating what is on offer. Inarguably, the K-Dramas, whether it is thriller/crime/legal/family drama/action, will not disappoint the viewers one bit. The good news is that they can only get better. No complaints.
