The X-Files series that is a hit for the Fox network and had received largely positive reviews in the past, is back in its season 10 with the X-Files Revival miniseries. The continuation to this American science fiction horror drama series is premiered on 24th January, 2016, simultaneously in USA and Canada. 1. A six episode event!
Unlike the previous nine seasons; this time the X-Files will just be a six episode event. The earlier seasons have seen at least 20 episodes each, with the highest number of 25 episodes in the season 2.
2. Background!
The X-Files originally aired from 1993 to 2002; and followed the exploits of federal agents Fox Mulder played by David Duchovny and Dana Scully played by Gillian Anderson, as they investigated crimes linked to the paranormal. Further, the series also spawned two films, 1998’s ‘The Eponymous’ film, and 2008’s ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe’ film.
3. A return with all key players!
The Fox TV group had decided to bring all the key players of the series back into the business! David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are reprising their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully respectively. Alongside them will be Chris Carter, who would be the executive producer and writer of the series.
4. The rise of the anthology!
Yeah, with the six episodes miniseries; this season can be linked to the rise of the anthology series television. With the likes of Fargo, True Detective and American Horror Story; the genre defining shorter seasons using different actors, has seen resurgence.
5. The X-Files Revival episodes!
The very first episode of the season 10 is titled ‘My Struggle’; and this would be the 203rd overall episode of the X-Files series. The other episodes from 2 to 6 will be titled as, ‘Founder’s Mutation’, ‘Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster’, ‘Home Again’, ‘Babylon’ and ‘My Struggle II’ respectively. The first and last episodes are episodes in the series’ alien mythology arc!
6. Locations of the seasons!
The first five seasons of the X-Files were filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia and the later seasons were filmed in Los Angeles, California. However, the series then again moved to Vancouver to film ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe’, a 2008 film and this miniseries of 2016 too.
7. Changed technological environment!
The rise of streaming video-on-demand services and premiering the revival miniseries in a ‘multi-channel and multi-platform, “post-TV” world’; proves that the TV landscape has technology-wise fundamentally changed. In addition to it, recently, some of the major episodes curated by Carter have been re-capped by Television networks around the world.
8. The political angle!
The intensified rhetoric of mistrust in the government is most loudly expressed by Fox News. Even, the show’s original run from 1993 to 2002 perfectly mirrors the Clinton’s presidency from 1993 to 2001; and it’s not a mere coincidence!
