  • The Karnataka Government is left with no choice but to relax the restrictions imposed on the back of the surging second covid wave that was found to be more virulent in transmissibility and severity leading to more deaths. That the authorities could finally succeed in flattening the curve can be debated at a later date, there is no denying the fact that the confirmed infection cases being reported daily is on the ebb for sure. However, it is disconcerting to note that the health authorities from both public as well as the private sectors are reporting more and more post-covid 19 complications amongst the recovered patients from the virus.

  • Such a scenario playing out only reaffirms the knowledge that the menace of covid will continue to bother us in the foreseeable future too. As reported in leading newspapers, Bengaluru city doctors are seeing post-Covid-19 complications aplenty in the form of fungal infections, renal impairment, neurological ailments just to name a few. Frighteningly, these numbers are more than the new covid cases being reported which should be a great cause of concern for the authorities and citizens, alike. Many patients who have recovered from the virus are approaching the doctors with far more complicated ailments. In some cases, a single patient would have fungal infections, renal impairment, and stress cardiomyopathy.
  • Most notably, the medical community is anticipating more such complication cases and is preparing themselves accordingly. This is indeed bad news. The reason for such a turn for the worse is naturally related to compromised immunity observed in the patients owing to the virus damaging the internal system. Also, infected people’s post-recovery protocol should entail regularly following up with physicians and carry out recommended tests and scans as prescribed. Delaying the prescribed prescriptions and following up tests invariably leads to landing up in hospitals with severe complications. As reports suggest, the number of patients in this category is alarmingly on the rise.

  • All of the mentioned clearly indicates that the virus menace is far from over even though the confirmed infection cases might reveal a different statistic otherwise. What should be the right course of action for the common citizens? It is a no-brainer to psyche ourselves by accepting that the covid virus will continue to exist for as long as it takes to inoculate every single person in the country. Letting down guard by discarding the health and safety protocols viz. personal masking, social distancing, frequent hand washing, and showing hesitancy in receiving vaccination alone would land us in getting severely infected.
  • Any measure of complacency in failing to adhere to these norms would be detrimental to not only individuals and families but also to the community as a whole. There are already talks of experts predicting a possible third wave further ravaging us in the next few months. By now, we are too familiar with the damages caused by the virus physiologically and psychologically on our well-being. Hence, protecting ourselves from the infection itself is of paramount importance by diligently observing the norms with intent. Otherwise, the countervailing challenges will overwhelm us completely. Let us all be responsible, please!
