- The Indian political scenario has altered with the advent of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance since 2014 needs no further elaboration. The political narrative in the country is deeply divided between secular and communal ideologies, which require no further validation either. Adding to the mix, the deeply polarized political discourse being passionately upheld by the leaders, irrespective of party affiliations, only succeeds in exacerbating the already simmering discourse. How can one not even mention the labyrinthine caste conundrum that sets the tone for the various political parties and their ideologies, taking root across the country? Little wonder, the regional political parties have grown from strength to strength in the last few decades.

- Amid all the accusations, counteraccusations, and vitiated atmosphere courtesy of acerbic remarks emanating from every worthy political party, where the narrative assumes personal attacks, ordinary citizens are left wondering what’s happening around. Rather than concentrate on the developmental agenda, growth factors, smooth law and order situations, economic reforms to enhance the living standards, and ease of doing business, as well as dignified existence, leaders throwing muck at each other makes for an extremely disturbing narrative. Indisputably, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has upheld the statutory requirements of conducting free, fair, and peaceful elections, adroitly earning respect from the countrymen and other countries too.

- Most disturbingly, the leader of the opposition (LOP) and the Congress scion has been incessantly accusing the ECI of vote thefts, citing unsubstantiated charges of bogus voters helping the BJP form the government. In other words, the scion is directly accusing the ECI of siding with the BJP to not only tamper with the voter lists but also facilitate bogus voting to ensure the party wins the elections hands down. The leader’s accusations started ever since the ECI announced the special intensive revision (SIR) of voters in Bihar before the state assembly elections were announced. Since then, the no-holds-barred allegations/accusations have only increased manifold without providing evidence to substantiate the claims. No one takes him seriously anymore.

- Prima facie, the discerning citizens would have appreciated it if the leader had chosen to follow the well-laid-down process of approaching the ECI and the courts seeking redressal of grievances. There is an established process that should be diligently utilized before embarking on an avowed mission to blame the statutory entity, like the ECI. The country is aware of how the leader has been forced to tender unconditional apologies time and again by the courts on the back of false accusations in the past. Such unverifiable claims have repeatedly failed to cut ice with the authorities as well as people. Mind you, the Grand Old Party has also won a few state assembly elections and improved its tally in the last Lok Sabha polls. Why flog the dead horse now?
