  • That the terrorists and their evil designs are not too far away from inflicting loss of precious/innocent lives of unsuspecting people was proved yet again when the capital city, New Delhi, witnessed a horrendous bomb explosion recently. Reports suggest 13 people have lost their lives at last count, and 30 are injured. All the concerned law enforcement agencies are working in tandem, looking into the heinous act from every possible angle to ascertain the facts. Prima facie, however, it appears a desperate act by the indoctrinated white-collar professionals, like doctors who are in the thick of action in the instant case. While all angles will be explored by the security apparatus, first and foremost, people must be made to feel reassured and safe.

Delhi explosion: Red Fort blast was terror incident, Indian government says

  • The recent bomb blast comes close on the heels of the security apparatus busting a terrorist plan to strike the country with malicious intentions. If the deadly blast outside Red Fort turns out to have a terrorist’s hand behind it, it will be the bloodiest such act in India’s capital in over 17 years. The security personnel are thoroughly looking into the cause and motive behind the heinous act. However, the devastation says it all. Burnt and mangled shells of cars and rickshaws, along with casualties. Of course, it’s reassuring to see police and special investigative agencies on the ground, and the PM and home minister monitoring developments closely. Nonetheless, the Union Government’s priority should be to make people feel safe at any cost.

  • Indeed, the truth will be known, but because this matter concerns the capital, the world is watching, we must get to the bottom of it at the earliest. It appears to be a terror strike. The first report said it might have been a CNG tank explosion in a car. Tragic, but reassuring due to the absence of malafide intent. However, when the ownership of the car had been ascertained, the terror angle seemed to gain heft. That the blast followed after the arrest of doctors with alleged terror links feeds the understanding. This involved a joint operation between Faridabad and Jammu and Kashmir police, where around 350 kg of explosives were also found. The case needs urgent answering apart from the Delhi blast.

  • Undoubtedly, nobody needs these answers more than the government and its security agencies, to keep all of us safe. But quelling people’s fears is equally important, because that has a bearing on the national mood and commerce. There was a 30-year period from the 1980s to the 2000s when terror, if not striking Delhi, was never far from it. Since the 2008 serial blasts, a whole generation has grown up without knowing terror. The government must do everything to ensure it remains unacquainted with it. If the evening blast was a premeditated act, the guilty must be brought to book speedily. Notably, this government has always talked tough on security; it must ensure that terror doesn’t take root in the capital again.
