  • No wonder, the mere mention of playback singing icon Lata Mangeshkar not only symbolizes all of the above-mentioned unique characteristic traits but also goes much beyond the same. Can anybody worth his/her salt quantify the Goddess of singing’s oeuvre and her insurmountable legacy over the last seven decades of her professional career? The obvious answer will be an emphatic no. Appropriately named as the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar has been an integral part of the Indian consciousness right from the time of Independence till her passing away. Yes, it is unimaginable to even mention that the icon of icons has left for her heavenly journey leaving behind a legacy that can never be emulated.
  • The peerless voice of India passed away on 06th February 2022 into the infinite, but the oceanic-like depths and the Everest-like achievements over these many years by Lata Didi will forever remain at the very top for generations to come. It makes one feel astounded to look at the monumental achievements of Lata and her mellifluous voice that was ubiquitous in its reach and presence. Whether it was antaksharis, college fests, home celebrations like rakhi, kirtan, ladies sangeet, and marriages, there was a song by her for every occasion season, and reason, and in almost every Indian language.

In an ever-changing country, Lata seamlessly knitted our past with our present and remained a constant till her last breath. Was there any secret for the unmatched popularity of the singing icon? Look not far than Lata’s voice encapsulating sweetness, purity, and simplicity matching the mood and predilections of the times which took her to the pinnacle of prominence. Remember, she had to fight and succeed in the male-dominated film industry on her terms without conveying power and muscle. Much like her persona, her voice embodies quiet strength and resolve.
