- Let us not beat around the bush and try to brush under the carpet anymore by singing paeans about Bengaluru being the most happening city in the country. Yes, the moniker of Bengaluru being the silicon valley of the country sits admirably on the capital and cannot be disputed. Of course, the chunk of the Information Technology revenue generated from the city also cannot be disputed either. Agreed, Bengaluru is also bracketed as the unicorn capital of India as well for the number of startups making its presence felt in the corridors of business. Yes, we are proud of it. No wonder, Bengaluru is the most preferred destination for countrymen from across the regions for offering tremendous opportunities in several spheres catering to every need. No doubts at all.

- This being the case, the population growth witnessed over the last two decades is monumental making Bengaluru a truly cosmopolitan city. It’s common sense to comprehend that for any economic activity to sustain and grow demands commensurate infrastructure facilities on the ground. Basic amenities like proper roads, regular power supply, and ample availability of water are non-negotiable for humanity to sustain and flourish. Moreover, economic activities can head northwards only when the atmosphere is not only conducive for business but also for undertaking envisaged expansion to generate even more employment opportunities. Sadly, the garden city of India increasingly resembles the garbage city of India owing to the apathy of the administrators.
- Ask any commuter from Bengaluru about the conditions of the roads, he/she is bound to rue the pathetic state of the same where erstwhile potholes have turned into craters making it a terrible experience to ply any vehicles. The authorities concerned may cite the incessant rains as the primary reason for the sorry state of city roads, but trust me, it is nothing but poor planning and execution of work that is the principal cause. Unscientific designing and rampant corruption dotting the civic agencies tasked to execute civil works have rendered the city roads a veritable deathtrap snaring hapless commuters mercilessly. The backbreaking experience of riding and driving on city roads is becoming increasingly excruciating for commuters.

- Thus, when senior businessperson TV Mohandas Pai recently tweeted about Bengaluru’s crumbling infrastructure and complete mismanagement of its administration, the majority of city dwellers would vociferously second as well as add to what the gentleman had to say on the matter. The political leaders, irrespective of party affiliations, may take umbrage under the inclement weather playing spoilsport for the pathetic road conditions. Sorry, people will have none of it. Pai tagging the Prime Minister about the unmotorable roads also mirrors the lack of confidence in our elected representatives and the government authorities to provide us with the most basic of infrastructure. Will the administration wake up from its slumber now? Hopefully, they will.
