- After an improved performance in the last Lok Sabha elections that doubled its tally from the previous one, it was assumed that the Grand Old Party would be donning the role of a responsible opposition, keeping the ruling benches on their toes by raising relevant issues for the betterment of the country. However, what eventually turned out after all these days is that the opposition bloc INDI alliances are hardly looking cohesive in their fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union Government. The reason could be that successive state assembly elections have not gone in Congress’s favour, resulting in losses in key states like Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The BJP-led NDA finds itself comfortably ensconced in the saddle.

- Mind you, perception from ordinary people on the ground, on matters of dignified existence, should be comprehended in its entirety by the political parties, irrespective of party affiliations. The moot point to ponder over here is whether the opposition parties have found ways and means to corner the ruling dispensation by raising issues of relevance. The answer must be a resounding no. Especially the way the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha – Rahul Gandhi – has gone about denigrating the universally acknowledged Election Commission of India (ECI) in the last few weeks begs questions as to what his real intentions are here. By calling ECI the agents of the ruling dispensation at the Centre, he is mounting an offence that defies sane logic.

He is also known to unleash vitriolic attacks and diatribes against the Union Government and the Prime Minister often. So many insinuations, allegations, accusations, and finger-pointing have been called for what they’re worth by no less than the Supreme Court as well. Nonetheless, the leader continues to go about his shenanigans with absolute recklessness. While the whole country was supporting the armed forces for showing exemplary bravery, daredevilry, and exceptional professionalism in neutralizing inimical elements, the scion kept raising doubts about the same.

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar has brought the INDI block together yet again. Will it cut ice with the discerning public? Unlikely.
