Her series of publicity stunts, risqué photographs and videos made her a social media star. She promoted them through her highly popular Facebook account.

Qandeel Baloch was also known as Kim Kardashian of Pakistan. She very recently bagged in more controversy for posing for a series of irreverent “selfie” photographs. These selfies were taken with a senior Muslim Clerk Mufti Abdul Qavi during Ramadan.

Qandeel Baloch: The Murder

According to Wasim, before he went to kill his sister he waited for his parents to sleep. He drugged and strangled Qandeel at their family home in Multan. Wasim said that Qandeel’s controversial career has bought financial wealth to the family. But the objectionable videos she posted were the reason why he had killed her, as those bought in a lot of shame to the family.

The crime was reported immediately by Ms Baloch’s father Muhammad Azeem. He said Wasim may have acted on the order of Mohammad Aslam Shaheen who is his older brother.

According to the city’s police chief Azhar Ikram- “As per our initial investigation, ‘honour’ is the motive of murder,”.  Wasim and Mohammad Aslam Shaheen both have been charged with Qandeel’s murder, and the local police said that the authorities would seek the “maximum punishment” for Wasim the killer.

“Honour Killings” in Pakistan is treated as a private offence and according to law the culprit can be pardoned by the victim’s family. Each year hundreds of women are killed in Pakistan – mostly by their own family members. And the reasons are mainly for violating the Pakistani conservative norms. Mostly violated for the sake of love and marriage.

Ms Baloch murder has definitely left many questions on the plight of Pakistani women. She was fearless and outspoken but was bad? Was it bad enough to give her death? Rest in peace brave lady, hope you find justice in death.
