  • The quadrennial 50-over Cricket World Cup has its charm, following, popularity, and positioning in the cricketing platform that has stood the test of times over the decades. There is any number of doubting masses who will not let go of an opportunity to question the relevance of the 50-over format in the presence of increasingly ubiquitous and extremely popular T20 leagues mushrooming all around the world. Of course, 50-over cricket is sandwiched between the Tests and the T20s but there is still room for this format to coexist and thrive, especially in a cricket-crazy country like India. The ongoing World Cup amply demonstrates that the format has not lost its charm despite the onslaught of T20 leagues.

  • We are aware of how crucial it is for the sport to sustain its viability and India as the major market plays a crucial role in ensuring the game’s revenue-generating capability sustains. Thus, it is heartening to watch paying spectators coming out in large numbers to the stadiums to cheer their team. Even though some of the most fancied teams like Australia, New Zealand, and Pakistan have had a mixed bag so far in the tournament, Team India’s mind-boggling performances so far have been incredible and awe-inspiring. The sheer domination of Team India against its opposition in the seven matches played so far has simply kindled the overwhelming ambitions of Indian fans to root for the team to go the distance.
  • The obvious question is why cannot Team India replicate the 2011 success of lifting the coveted World Cup yet again? The way Team India has steamrolled the opposition with commanding and dominating performances so far gives an impression that it should go the distance without much trouble. Nonetheless, not for nothing cricket is mentioned as a game of uncertainty as anything can happen in the coming days or before the business end of the tournament. Look not far than how the defending champions England have been demolished with no palpable explanation coming forth for their tame capitulation. Team England has looked anything but the champion side that they were not so long ago.

  • However, if the Rohit Sharma-led team maintains its momentum in the next few days, there is no reason why Team India cannot lift the Cup with ease. Team India has proved unbreachable and unbreakable in all three departments of the game. All the batters are in superb form complemented by the best bowling attack in the tournament led by the indefatigable Jasprit Bumrah. So splendid has been the domination of Team India that it has not felt the absence of the mercurial allrounder Hardik Pandya’s absence at all. With pacers firing all cylinders and the spinners in fabulous form, Team India appears fantastic. As true lovers of the sport and cheerleaders for Team India, let’s fervently hope and pray that we win the Cup yet again.
