  • The global community must have felt aghast at the turn of events coming close on the heels of the news headlines about how the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores, were abducted in the dead of night from a secure place while they were asleep. That Donald Trump was assiduously targeting Maduro was known ever since his first term as the president of the USA. That he would accord ascent to the military to press ahead with such daring, brazen, and precise operation to abduct a president of another sovereign country is astonishing to say the least. Of course, the local MAGA supporters must be thrilled with the resultant outcome when Trump’s popularity ratings were headed south consistently. What next?

Trump has options to acquire Greenland, but few are realistic: Expert - ABC News

  • What else, but other threatening ultimatums being made by the maverick leader, over the last few months, like annexing Greenland, Cuba, and Mexico? Right now, Trump is obsessed with annexing Greenland by whatever means it takes to lay his hands on it, citing security concerns for the Americans. The moot point to ponder over here is what will happen to the established world order that places great emphasis on guarding the sovereignty factor for every country in the universe. Who cares, not the least Trump, who is such a self-centered, obsessed leader, looking at every opportunity to proclaim false claims bombastically with no consideration for truth/facts. Trump may get Greenland without firing a shot if he sweetens the deal for Greenlanders. How so?

How could Donald Trump 'take' Greenland?

  • It’s obvious Greenland will be the next target for Trump. As is his wont, he pulled out the national security imperative last week. His homeland security adviser, Stephen Miller, said nobody’s going to fight the US militarily over the future of Greenland. Fair point. Denmark, which has controlled Greenland for 300 years, isn’t quite the military power it was when it harassed the Mughals in the Bay of Bengal for 50 years in the 17th century. But just because the Danes have only 16,000 soldiers now doesn’t mean Trump should grab Greenland. Yes, its strategic location, access to the Arctic Ocean, rare earths, and probably billions of barrels of oil make it irresistible for him. But this is Europe. There’s no fig leaf of drugs and invasion by immigrants this time, you see.

  • So, a grab, Danes themselves say it would take five choppers at most, would look awfully bad on Trump’s dossier. Even if he doesn’t care about Nato. Instead, as Trump said last year, I think we’re going to get it, one way or the other, he should try the other tack. His old pitch about investing billions of dollars to create new jobs, to make Greenlanders rich, is a good idea. But since they are almost as rich as Americans in PPP dollar terms, he must sweeten the deal. Considering that 85% of them earlier opposed absorption by the US, Trump should offer them all some substantial money, plus US citizenship as icing on the cake, payable after they consent in a referendum. Last heard, Trump has offered $ 10,000-100,000 each to Greenlanders. Is anyone taking it?
