Though lockdown is extended for two more weeks till 17th May 2020 even as a long winding enforced lockdown measures enters into 40 days or so, life across the country will finally commence limping back to normalcy in a restricted way largely depending on the prevalent zones as classified by the Union Home Ministry guidelines. 04th May 2020 in a sense would virtually reboot the stalled economic activities that have rendered the job of Governments’ – Central and States, respectively – humongous and fraught with extreme challenges.

  • It was inevitable and on expected lines to reboot the nation-building process at an opportune time, and as such, the Union Government which was hugely constrained in exercising any other option but to kick-start the economic activities albeit in a limited way, has moved in that direction for sure. Saving lives was paramount back when the decision to enforce lockdown was taken and now, ensuring livelihood with dignity and respect should be the single most focal point of attention for the authorities concerned.

  • For the marginal strata of the society viz. migrant workers, laborers, blue-collar workforce are the harshest hit and hence, allowing them an opportunity to return back to all those previously carried out activities will be an extremely arduous task. As lakhs of stranded migrant workforce were allowed to go back to their native states for the past one week, it needs to be seen how the much-required labor force would be managed/retained as the case may be. Personal appeal to not move out is already forthcoming from few State Chief Ministers.

  • In the meanwhile, COVID 19 infection rates are gradually scaling newer heights in certain States which is a real cause for concern amidst easing of lockdown restrictions. How would one ensure strict adherence to social distancing norms alongside personal protection to keep the dreaded virus at bay? Will the inadequate infrastructure, limited resources and stretched health warriors still hold good or would it lead to overwhelming the authorities with increased burden? Times ahead should throw a definite picture on these concerns.

  • Though various industries and its leaders are keen to move ahead, above challenges that appear basic but poses probing questions demanding suitable answers, would be compelled to come out with effective solutions quickly. I am sure all of us would earnestly wish to extend our bit to help the authorities to reboot whatever the challenges that might be encountered along the way. Come on India it’s time to show our resilience and fighting spirit!
