Flip Flop Government Moves

  • Apparently, the State Government of Karnataka is either functioning in mounting pressure from unknown sources or it might be succumbing to extraneous considerations beyond the comprehension of discerning people. Ever since implementing the lockdown as mandated by the Central Government, dithering and indecisiveness appears to have crept into the functioning of the State Government going by the past events.

  • Right in the beginning, the State was witness to a turf war between two ministers speaking different language whilst disseminating pandemic related details. The Chief Minister was forced to entrust such responsibilities to other senior minister as a consequence. When it finally appeared the Government has placed its house in order by projecting a united front, there appears to be by now familiar dithering and indecisiveness creeping in yet again.

  • Conflicting announcements in times of crisis not only questions the Government’s ability to administer effectively but also exposes the underlying fault lines unnecessarily.
  • Mind you, the economy is already reeling under the impact of lockdown denting the confidence of all stakeholders. Scores of investors across sectors and all hues & cries – businessmen, big & small / traders / farmers / workers, white & blue collared / professionals and laborers are already facing extraordinary hardships. Least expected by each one of us is semblance of uniformity in decision making and also measures aimed at mitigating our sufferings in times of distress.

  • Many would concur that conflicting messages emanating from the very top echelons of the Government is nothing less than a disservice to the avowed objectives of all elected representatives. The Chief Minister is a respected figure nationally and the entire country’s prying eyes are on Karnataka – one of the most advanced States – to see how it emerges out of the conundrum. Soliciting responses from medical experts / respected leaders/opposition before arriving at a particular decision would do no harm whatsoever. The gentleman will receive wholehearted support this way.

  • Everyone anticipates easing of norms to get on with our individual lives at the earliest but one cannot discount lurking peril in the form of catastrophic virus hell-bent on wreaking more havoc. Tough times call for tough measures and hence no half-measures please. Definitely no more flip-flops.
