- The Indian political scenario is always successful at presenting a kaleidoscopic viewpoint, with not-so-easily decipherable undercurrents, which is stating the obvious. People closely following the fortunes of the political parties in the country would vouch in unison about the various challenges surrounding the occurrences. The often-mentioned adage that there are no permanent enemies and/or friends in the political firmament always gets reaffirmed when sworn enemies join hands when it serves their purpose. Likewise, a firmly entrenched friendship often gets disbanded for even whimsical reasons far beyond the comprehension of commoners, too. Of course, that’s the beauty of the Indian political system, which is fascinating, intriguing, and confusing.

- What’s happening in Karnataka’s political one-upmanship among the ruling dispensation’s two powerful leaders must have caught the imagination of the countrymen, for the brazen display of ambition for power. The two protagonists, viz. the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Ministerin the Karnataka government led by the Grand Old Party, make for an extremely interesting read. As the situation heated up between the two leaders on the back of the supposed arrangement of a power-sharing pact, the high command had to step in to cool the situation by asking the two leaders to meet up over what else but breakfast. Easygoing and informal, political breakfasts are wake-up calls that pacify and mollify, build both consensus and pressure.

- Most intriguingly, the far more interesting follow-up to the news that Karnataka’s CM and DCM brokered peace after breaking bread together is to ask what graced the table rather than what tiresome trajectory the power tussle will take. The shared meal was no light bite, but a hearty meal, cooked hot, spicy, and certainly gladdening – for the ceasefire between the two Congress veterans in the political theatre was immediate. Indeed, breakfasts signal the start of a new day, renewed purpose, and fresh resolve, and a sumptuous breakfast can make angry-hungry men eat their words. Call it breakfast diplomacy, breakfast bilaterals, pre-summit breakfast meeting, or early morning working meal, morning repast shows the day – open minds and sunny side up.

- Further, when it’s a quick strategy meeting on the political menu, the food stays on record, not so much the chatter, because of the informality of breakfast as compared to lavish state dinners. Also, it is said that at EU meetings, all political deals are struck over the pre-summit breakfast that has become a permanent fixture – way before the national leaders even sit together in the same room. Even the GOI had started a breakfast series of government interactions with industry and experts. What ultimately transpired during the meeting between the two stalwart politicians of the state and Congress will not be known to outsiders. However, buying time will not douse the ambitions of the political leaders who are hell bent on asserting their stance in no uncertain terms.
