The real fun begins when your child is up on his/her own feet. Toddlers are ready to conquer the world, each and every day is a new adventure for them lots to explore and lots to experiment. This is a thrilling and fun stage of their life, but certainly it comes with associated risks and dangers too.

The following are few safety tips that you can follow to keep you budding explorer safe.

1. Poisoning

As children’s from age 1-4 are curious about everything, Poisoning is a big danger for them .Toddlers who are younger will be inclined to put every possible thing into their mouth, and pre-schoolers will be extremely curious to explore items found in drawers and cabinets.

You need to protect your child from any accidental poisoning:

  • All medicines should be kept at a distance which is out of reach of the children’s.
  • Don’t ever refer medicine to “candy.”
  • Ensure all cleaning products or any other dangerous products is completely out of the reach of children. Always prefer keeping it all in a locked cabinet.
  • Keep the number for poison control handy with you, in case of any emergency.

As there cute little fingers want to touch and feel everything, so you need be alert and take extra precautions to keep your child safe from getting burned:

  • Don’t let your child come near the gas stove when you are cooking also keep them away when you are ironing clothes , ensure you keep them in a safe place while you finish the work.
  • Do not keep the handles of the pot/pan outward on the stove as the children’s might pull them.
  • Always accompany your child in the kitchen, never leave then unsupervised in the kitchen.
  • Items like matches, lighters, candles & hot food or liquids should be out of a child’s reach.

Falling is a very common danger faced by all Children .In fact children’s fall very often. They might fall as our little ones are still a little unsteady on their tiny feet’s, or because they are enjoying climbing.

  • Always keep doorways leading to any dangerous area in the house closed.
  • Install safety gates both at the top and at the bottom of each stairway.
  • Install window guards on all the windows.
  • Use skid-proof pads below all the rugs.
  • Always keep a close watch on your child when they are indulged in dangerous activities like climbing on furniture or at the playground.

The following are some safety tips for preventing your child from choking:

  • Try and avoid foods that can get blocked in the airways of childrens. Until 4 years of age avoid hot dogs, popcorn, whole grapes, hard candies or toffees, and chewing gum.
  • Give very safe finger foods to your children such as bananas, very well-cooked pasta and vegetables.
  • Keep away dangerous items such as coins, buttons, and balloons completely out of your child’s reach.
  • Strictly follow age recommendations on the toys, be extra careful for those with small parts.
  • Be attentive as children put many things in their mouths.

An adult if perfectly watchful it is the best defence for your child.

  • Keep your child in a safety seat when riding a vehicle.
  • Always accompany your child, when they are near water.
  • Teach your children to wash their hands frequently, make it compulsory after playing outside.
  • When playing outside children’s should always be supervised by an adult.

 

Always remember that our little ones safety is just in our hands. These tips will help you be a little more cautious and ready or avoid any such hazard that might come in the way of your little darling.
