First COVID-19 Free State: how Goa Beat the Virus Hands Down!

  • As we all are aware, the pre-pandemic period enthused millions of tourists to visit the holiday paradise state of Goa from within the country as well as overseas in equal measure. Right from celebrities to well-heeled to ordinary people, Goa always something or the other for each one of us. Sun-drenched and sandy beaches, water sports, safety & hospitality, affordable booze, mouth-watering seafood/cuisine, carnival atmosphere, apart from extremely alluring marketing strategies in place makes Goa any tourists’ delight.

  • No wonder, tourists’ are known to make a beeline for soaking in the experience again and yet again. On its part, the State Government makes all-out efforts to ensure comforts of the visiting tourists are not compromised since vibrant tourism is the lifeline generating bountiful revenue from this particular sector. Thousands of people’s life depends on the sector where any form of adversity or negativity would severely deprive decent livelihood.
  • As such, when the abominable virus made its presence in the coastal state, entire machinery was quickly off the block to implement measures as recommended by the Union Home and Health Ministries. Alacrity shown by the State authorities deserves special mention no sooner the first case of infection was reported. Subsequently, containment measures were strictly enforced leading to the flattening and curtailing of the spread of the virus in no time.

  • Most hearteningly, each of the reported 07 cases of infection has fully recovered by returning negative making it the very first State in India to be declared COVID-19 free since 20th April 2020. A proud moment indeed for the State Administration and scores of officials right down to warriors on the ground for pitching in with commendable work performances in beating the virus.

  • Further, the only challenge before the authorities is to ensure the State continues to remain infection-free by strictly adhering to all containment measures without showing any signs of complacency. Once the Central Government gradually lifts the restraints, the State authorities should be prepared for any eventualities as also confidently market its capabilities of combating adversity with great aplomb.

  • Such a positive outcome is bound to be appreciated by the eagerly awaiting tourists. It should not come as a surprise if droves of people flock to the State no sooner the lockdown measures are eased out. I am looking forward to the visit in the near future, are you too?
