- Now, concerned citizens of Indi must be pulling their hairs in desperation to comprehend what on earth is stopping the elected representatives from delivering on promised good and able governance, especially addressing the concerns about basic amenities. The sad tale of gross neglect and incompetence exhibited by the civil agencies in ensuring the basic amenities are in place must have left the citizens exasperated by now. Indian society is becoming increasingly aspirational wanting to be counted among the best of the nations globally is obvious. Yes, we have been recognized as the fifth largest economy presently. The Union Government is quite gung-ho about being coronated as the third-largest economy sooner than later. Or is it?

- The Indian economy has shown remarkable resilience in growing at a steady rate and pace despite the once-in-a-century pandemic severely curtailing the economy on the back of suffocating restrictions. On top of it, the geopolitical and geostrategic situation around the world has been impeded by the ongoing conflicts between Russia and Ukraine as well as Israel and Hamas further debilitating economic activities. However, due credit must accrue to the Union Government for allowing the country to sail through without too much discomfort for the citizens. However, the moot point to ponder over here is why our civic agencies time and again fail to deliver promised amenities in urban dwellings that are the nerve center of economic development.
- Take any metro city in India right from the national capital New Delhi to the financial capital Mumbai to the industrial hub Chennai to the Information-Technology capital Bengaluru to other equally important centers, every city cries for adequate attention to ensure the basic amenities like water, power, roads, and governance are satisfactory. Take for instance the pathetic conditions of roads in Bengaluru. The non-existent pot-filled roads are so common that commuters would be delighted to commute for a decent enough stretch without encountering a crater. The perennial patchwork undertaken will not hold good for a couple of spells of rain. Yes, the monsoon ideally would be welcomed but sadly, commuters dread the rain will make their commuting awful.

- Unfortunately, we have heard enough assurances, promises, excuses, and inaction from the elected representatives and the civic officials. We know it is mere lip service rather than substantive action on the ground. Desperate citizens would beg to question the authorities to answer why there cannot be a permanent solution to the perpetual challenges for the commuters who expect decent roads to commute. As it is, the traffic snarls are a big challenge bogging the commuters and the lack of good roads to commute only adds to the mounting frustration. No wonder, the road rage cases are on the ascendency resulting in loss of lives too. Will the civic authorities mend their ways to address these pressing issues satisfactorily? Let’s hope they will.
