- As you must be aware, the modern-day innovations, inventions, developments, growth, and even more promises of ushering in never-heard-before world-class amenities commensurate with the global standards are par for the course measure for any government authority in power. The same holds for the Indian government as well. Mind you, India is increasingly becoming aspirational and fervently wishes to be counted among the most developed nations in the world. It is indeed a matter of great pride that India is already the fifth-largest economy in the world. If things proceed as envisaged by the ruling dispensation at the Centre, the Indian economy should be among the three largest in the next few years.

- Not only this but the Indian economy is also poised to be counted among the developed nations by 2047. These portend great tidings for the nation which should make our efforts even more meaningful in every endeavor that would only take us ahead. Now, we also know that India is largely an Agri-based economy despite boasting tremendous advancements over the last few decades. Of course, our services sector has shown humongous growth in the last couple of decades simply because our proficiency in the Information Technology domain has been remarkable. Yes, we are making big strides in manufacturing as well as other cutting-edge technologies like space, etc., These advances are well appreciated and acknowledged too.
- However, the moot point to ponder over here is whether our urban planning complements the growth prospects being projected in its entirety. The answer must be a resounding no. Since the opportunities in the urban centers are lacking in providing an equitable level playing field for the enterprising individuals seeking greener pastures, there is a palpable lacuna in the way cities are emerging without any semblance of foresight, vision, or practical solutions to support those migrating populations. Most of our cities are not planned and hence place colossal pressure on the meager resources. This not only fails to live up to expectations but also dampens the already clogged infrastructure manifolds. Haphazard planning is the biggest letdown.

- Mind you, if India aspires to position itself as a favorable investment destination for overseas industries and entrepreneurs, it must ensure the urban planners not only come out with foolproof planning to provision adequate infrastructural facilities but also ensure the steady supply of skilled manpower to complement the growth too. Unfortunately, none of India’s metropolitan cities can boast world-class infrastructure at par with the advanced nations, which would only concretize the prospective investors to invest big-time. The most basic amenities like motorable roads, potable water, uninterrupted power supply, and authorities bereft of red-tapism are an absolute must. Things are changing for the good but not at a pace one wishes to witness.
