- The pandemic has completely altered the way humanity goes about its routine day-to-day living needs no further elaboration or emphasis. It is also quite visible everywhere as the challenges brought about by the devastation have forced the introduction of many novel ideas. Needless to mention, resilience exhibited by human beings over the centuries on the back of tremendous difficulties has always resulted in path-breaking innovations, inventions, developments, and advancements. As the saying goes necessity is the mother of all inventions, humanity never fails to surprise with its never-say-die attitude to develop interesting methodologies to circumvent any unpleasant situation staring at us.

- One such novelty factor came to the fore during the last one and a half years in the form of vaccine inventions to present an effective means to subdue the raging SARS-Cov-2 virus. Usually what used to take years and decades to invent a vaccine could be developed in a matter of few months speaks volumes about our determination to erect a shield of protection against an unknown and faceless enemy threatening to disrupt peaceful existence. The scientific and medical community around the world worked overnight to invent few vaccine candidates that are proving to be a great boon in protecting millions of people from the dreaded effects of the virus.
- The data shared by the world scientific communities are unambiguously stating how the vaccines are succeeding in limiting the severity of the infection leading to precious saving of lives. The Indian scientific fraternity deserves to be applauded for coming out with two in-house vaccine inventions which are under emergency use authorization since 16th January 2021. In a country of such humongous population density spread across such vast swathes of landscape, India inoculating 55 crores of vaccine doses to its citizens is no mean achievement. To put the issue in its right perspective, such a mind-boggling vaccination drive number would have covered most of the major European countries, no less.

- Despite facing widespread backlash, hesitancy, and unscientific apprehensions from different quarters, the Union Government deserves credit for undertaking the vaccination drive with determined zeal to cross a significant landmark. As you are aware, the Union Government has committed to inoculate all its adult citizens by December 2021. Going by the promise of ensuring the availability of adequate quantities of vaccines, the eligible citizens will be hopeful of receiving vaccine doses without having to wait for eternity. Promisingly, granting emergency use authorization to few more vaccine candidates in the coming days will supplement the ongoing drive to a great extent.
- However, there are teething problems encountered in many parts of the nation vis-à-vis the steady supply of vaccines not reaching on time or in adequate quantities. People are made to wait for long and asked to return on the pretext of non-availability of vaccine stock is a regular phenomenon witnessed. Addressing the issue of supply should be prioritized without any further delay as the looming threat of a third Covid wave might disrupt the endeavor. A word of advice for the eligible people to shun unfounded inhibitions to go ahead and receive vaccines without any fear. As responsible citizens, the least we can do from our end is to support the Government diligently by receiving vaccines.
