US Air force has reported that an MQ-9 Reaper – US Air force Drone has crashed at the Kandahar airbase which is situated in Southern Afghanistan. The noticeable fact is that such an incident is happening in less than three months, when a similar armed US Air force drone had crashed at the same location.

 

US Air force Drone Crash – Facts

1.Captain Bryan Bouchard belonging to the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing has said in a statement that the $14 Million US Air force drone crashed at Kandahar airbase on Saturday night.

2.The expeditionary wing oversees the Air force’s groups based at Kandahar and Bagram airfields in Afghanistan.

3.In November 2015, another US Airforce drone was reportedly shot down by ground fire more than 483km to the northeast of the base. The reason of the crash was not made public but the military ruled out ground fire as a suspected factor.

4.MQ-9 happens to be the first hunter killer unmanned aerial vehicle which has been designed for high altitude.

5.The reapers can carry a combat payload of up to 1,700 kilograms, including hellfire missiles and laser guided bombs.

6.US Military ended its combat mission in 2014 but it still uses air strikes by drones and other aircraft in Afghanistan to target members of Islamic State and al-Qaeda and back up Afghan forces who are dealing with a Taliban insurgency.

7.No civilian damage or injuries were reported after US Airforce drone costing $14 million had crashed.

8.Captain Bouchard also said that the US authorities will investigate the reason of the crash but hostile fire was not a factor.

9.Unmanned aircraft are usually guided remotely by pilots outside Afghanistan and have played a major but controversial role in the American war acting as spy planes.

10.A London based NGO which analyses UAV strikes data has reported that around 356 people (alone in Afghanistan) had been killed in 57-61 US Air force drone strikes by February 2016.
