Well, it seems Twitter is overtaking Facebook’s popularity; at least in Japan. According to the data provided by Twitter recently, the micro-blogging social media site has more users in Japan as compared to Facebook. Twitter had published the number of its users outside the US recently.
Twitter more popular than Facebook in Japan
Probably, Japanese love micro-blogging than detailed socialization. May be that’s why Twitter has more than 35 million monthly active users in Japan as of the end of last year. On the other hand, Facebook has 25 million users in Japan, as per the company spokesperson. Japanese being the world’s third-largest economy, this difference in active users is huge.
The Wall Street Journal had sited this news on Saturday that Twitter had to provide these numbers, as the investors had raised a concern on company’s quarterly income. According to the Twitter’s investors, looking at the earning, it seemed that the company’s growth has stalled; at least in the countries outside the US. However, these numbers are a clear indication that Twitter is going strong and doing better than its competitors like Facebook.
In addition to the number of users, the social media firm also mentioned that 320 million users signed into the platform at least once a month in the fourth quarter, which is the same as in the previous three months. On the other hand, Facebook had 1.59 billion monthly active users as of the end of last year. This is 3% more users than the previous three months.

Shailesh Rao, company’s vice president of Asia-Pacific, Latin America and emerging markets backed the numbers released by the company. In addition to this, he also said that the company has seen more than a ‘five-fold growth’ in usage in a really short time. He further highlighted how Twitter has increased its users’ base mentioning that the firm had fewer than 7 million users in Japan in 2011. Twitter became extremely popular in Japan when it became the fastest platform to receive news after a massive tsunami and earthquake hit the country 5 years ago. Since then, Japanese people have started joining Twitter rapidly increasing the users’ base by 5 times in 5 years.
Twitter’s user base is huge across the globe; however, according to some reports, the company’s user growth has slowed down ever since the firm went public in 2013.
