The Members of Parliament are elected representatives chosen to represent the constituents and are bestowed with responsibilities as policymakers to push the country’s agenda forward. As you are aware, Indian citizens are quite accustomed to witnessing one or the other form of elections viz. the local panchayat/corporation/municipal, the state assembly, and of course, the Parliamentary polls as well. Yes, the Indian political scenario is dotted with labyrinthine caste equations where caste, creed, class, religion, ethnicity, and local issues play a big role. The quotas and reservations are the par for the course issues that will remain at the center of discussions and offerings. This is the most defining aspect of any election that needs no further elaboration.

  • The political class will milk the issue to gain substantial mileage in line with ensuring the assiduously built vote banks are further strengthened. On top of it, the political battlelines are also drawn based on the communal and secular narrative that is becoming increasingly ubiquitous and unchallenged. Further, the polarization on majority and minority community lines is also a fact that cannot be brushed under the carpet. Thus, the elected representatives, whether in the government or the opposition, are always in a battle mode attempting to pin down each other at any given opportunity. Remember, the primary responsibility of the MPs is to ensure business activities are conducted to prepare, present, and implement policy decisions. In Clash Over Two Billionaires In Parliament, Taxpayers Lose Over Rs 2.5 Lakh Every Minute | Times Now

Yes, one-upmanship between the ruling dispensation and the opposition to win over the electorate is a common phenomenon. However, the level of conduct of Parliamentary proceedings has taken a considerable hit over the last few years is stating the obvious. Whereas the ruling dispensation wishes to ensure the proposed bills are passed without any hitch, the opposition parties would leave no stone unturned to cause disruptions whenever the Parliament is in session. Unfortunately, the political class seems hell-bent on disruptions rather than discharge duties.Parliament Winter session: Key bills on Waqf and banking laws; check full list | India News - Times of India

  • The winter session of the Parliament has already started on a disastrous note with Congress leading the opposition ranks to corner the government on issues that it views as crucial to gain traction among the electorate. On its part, the Union Government appears intransigent in not allowing the opposition’s calls for discussions. The resultant outcome is that the precious taxpayer’s money is going down the drain when our elected representatives indulge in causing disruptions rather than conducting business in an orderly manner. In some cases, the bills are passed without proper debate which goes against the tenet of the Parliamentary norms. Will our MPs exhibit more maturity and understanding by allowing Parliament to function?
