  • Not for nothing, it is mentioned that politics is an art of the impossible where anything and everything can be realized in a jiffy. People closely following the Indian political scenario cannot be faulted for turning into cynics since the political class has time and again proved that they can be as unpredictable as the modern-day weather patterns. The chameleons must be feeling embarrassed to witness how our political class keeps hopping from one ideology to another without ever feeling concerned/bothered about the larger opinion of the public. Little wonder, people have stopped taking the political statements at face value rather than preferring to turn cynical by the day. Yes, the political narrative has gone from bad to worse in recent times.

  • When you start viewing anything and everything with parochial considerations as the driving force, the political narrative is bound to evolve into a slugfest involving different ideologies making earnest attempts at one-upmanship. Indian citizens must be sick of hearing promises and assurances galore whenever a political party states/promises corruption-free administration if voted to power. People would have lost count of how for the umpteenth time the same old assurances are trumpeted to win over the ever-skeptical voters hoping against hope that those elusive promises will eventually fructify someday. Sadly, the eternal wait continues as can be seen with the unfolding corruption-related issues surfacing in the state of Karnataka of late.
  • Mind you, the Congress government came to power with an absolute majority by defeating the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party which was mired in corruption-related allegations during its regime. Notably, the five guarantee schemes promised by the Congress had an impactful acceptance among the electorate resulting in the overwhelming blessing to assume power. Indeed, the Congress administration did successfully implement the five guarantee schemes but at the cost of debilitating effects on the exchequer. The opposition alliance of the BJP- JD(S) was always on the lookout for an opportunity to get back at the ruling dispensation. They stumbled upon an opportunity when the CM himself was found mired in corruption allegations recently.

  • The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allocation controversy has singed the Congress government with the opposition going all agog highlighting how the administration has failed the people. The incumbent CM is an aggressive leader who cannot be easily subdued, and true to his reputation, has not only ridiculed the opposition claims but also questioned the Governor’s role in granting permission for prosecution against him. Further, he has claimed the Centre is utilizing the good office of the Governor to unsettle the duly elected government on unverified allegations. The people are aware of how corruption is deeply embedded in society. As such, we will be largely unconcerned with the eventual fallout of the latest claims. Life goes on.
