The rapidly-spreading Zika virus has forced the Indian carmaker, Tata Motors to rename its newly developed and yet to be introduced Zica car. The decision came for the pretty obvious reason! The name of this new hatchback Zica sounds exactly like the awful Zika virus.
Tata Motors to rename hatchback Zica!
Tata Motors, which is a part of the Tata Group, one of the India’s largest conglomerates have decided to rename the hatchback Zica on Tuesday. The new hatchback got its name from Zippy Car as ‘ZiCa’. But, the company decided to rename after WHO declaring the mosquito-borne Zika virus being the cause of the global emergency.
This new car has been developed by the Tata Motors to help in the turnaround for them. And, to stop the negative effects and adverse publicity, the company is being forced to rename it!
‘Empathizing with the hardships being caused by the recent ‘Zika’ virus outbreak across many countries, Tata Motors, as a socially responsible company, has decided to rebrand the car’, Tata Motors had said in a statement on Tuesday.
The company further added, ‘Tata Motors is committed to doing what is right for its customers; the car, which has been designed for young people, has already received enthusiastic reviews from informed commentators, and the company is determined to place it in the market addressing all relevant needs of the target audience’.
Car to debut at Auto Expo
The new car is due to showcase in the biennial New Delhi motor show, ‘Auto Expo 2016’, which starts on Wednesday.
However, the car will be displayed with ‘Zica’ name only during the event. The company will announce the new name afterwards, after ensuring that all the necessary regulatory and branding aspects are being properly addressed. After the rebranding, the car will then be introduced in the market.
The car has been developed at the company’s studio in the United Kingdom in 36 months; and is manufactured at its plant in Gujarat along with inputs from Jaguar Land Rover.
Tata Motors is the India’s fifth-biggest automaker, and owns the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. And, this new hatchback is endorsed by Lionel Messi, the world soccer player of the year.
