- As you are aware, Team India is on the firing line for their below-par performances in the last two Test series viz. New Zealand and Australia. Team India failed miserably to deliver the goods when the fans were expecting spectacular performances. The euphoria of winning the ICC-sponsored T20 World Cup quickly dissipated even as the less fancied New Zealand team whitewashed India 3-0, followed by a disastrous 4-1 routing Down Under. What got the goat of the fans was the way two of the most decorated and renowned stalwarts captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli consistently failed to deliver when it mattered most. The talks of Rohit Sharma’s continuity in the team started gaining ground because of the continued poor returns.

- Now, those of us who have been following the sport for decades would know that the cricketer’s class is always considered permanent and the form temporary. Living up to the maxim, captain Rohit Sharma delivered a scintillating performance in the ongoing one-day internationals against the visiting England. Remember, Rohit is under tremendous pressure with people from different corners questioning his credentials to don the role of a captain and the player. As it happens so often, the second ODI played in Cuttack yet again proved the adage that the big players can never be ruled out for want of performances just like that. Rohit Sharma’s blazing century while chasing a stiff target not only is timely but also helps settle down mounting criticism against him.

- We know how destructive and demoralizing Rohit in full flow can be on the opposition ranks. He is such a clean striker of the cricket ball that when Rohit hits it stays hit. The towering sixes and lazy elegant drives were back as Rohit went about constructing a beautiful innings despite a short break when a part of the floodlights went off. Rohit’s timely form augurs well for Team India’s ensuing campaign in the 50-over ICC-Champions Trophy and the subsequent five-match Test series against England in England. For now, Rohit has ensured that critics and the murmurs surrounding his continuation have been taken care of. Hopefully, he will only gain more confidence from the defining innings to do what he does best, to entertain with that eye-pleasing lazy elegance again.
