Awards, is something everyone dreams of; then it may be any field. There are some awards in this world which are nothing less an honor to receive. Awards like Nobel and Oscar are considered to be the highest awards in the world. Similarly, ‘Filmfare Awards and ‘National Awards’ are some of the biggest awards in India. The prestigious Filmfare award function has been held for 60 years now and is considered to be like Oscars for Indian cinema. Every actor dreams to come onto the stage and hold the black lady for once in their entire career. Similarly, National Awards is one of the prestigious awards presented by the President of India. Who wouldn’t want such award, right? Wrong! I will tell you about 8 Bollywood personalities who refused an award at some point of time.

 

Filmfare1.Sonu Nigam
Sonu Nigam is first in the list of personalities who refused an award. He was awarded the best singer’s award for the song ‘Sandese Aate Hain’ in 1997. However, he refused to accept the award stating that because the song was sung by him and Roop Kumar Rathore and the song couldn’t be completed without him, so he just couldn’t accept the award all by himself.

 

 

 

 

 

Filmfare2.Vyajayantimala
She had got an award for the best supporting actress in Devdas (1955). She refused to accept the award as because she believed that she was the lead actress and not Suchritra Sen. I must say, to refuse an award like this, one must have courage. Vyajayantimala is listed on the 2nd position in the list of personalities who refused an award.

 

 

 

Filmfare3.Aamir Khan
Yes Mr. Perfectionist has also refused to accept the black lady and become a part of personalities who refused an award. In 1996, he was chosen for the best actor award for his performance in Raja Hindustani. On the same day, he was asked to do a performance on the show which the actor rejected. As a result, the producer decided not to give the award to Aamir. That is the reason why Aamir refuses to be a part of any award show.

 

 

Filmfare4.Suchitra Sen
Suchitra Sen had stopped appearing in films from 1978. After quitting her film career, she spent her time with Ram Krishna Mission. In 2005, she was chosen for the highest award in Indian cinema – Dada Saheb Falke award. She had said that she would accept the award only if it would be held in a private ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan. The government did not accept her request and she ultimately lost the award.

Shashi Kapoor is yet another actor among the personalities who refused an award. refused to accept the National Award for the best actor as because he believed that his performance in the film was not worth for bagging a National Award. According to me, this is the most honest and respectful reason and that is the reason he has a great legacy and he is a legend.

Reena Roy’s reason for not accepting the award was similar to that of Vyajayantimala. She had got the Filmfare Award for the best supporting actress for Apnapan. However, she refused to accept the award stating as she thought that she was the lead actress.

You will be surprised to see the legendary actor’s name is listed among the personalities who refused an award. Prithiviraj Kapoor had bagged the award for the best supporting actor for Mugal E Azam. His reason of not accepting the award too was similar to many people mentioned before. It was pretty justified when he said that the film was titled ‘Mughal-E-Azam’, where he had played the title role; then how could he be the supporting actor in the film.

Lata Mangeshkar is the legendry singer of India. She is probably one of the most dignified persons in the Bollywood Industry. She had refused to accept the award (her first ever Filmfare award) because the statuette was in the shape of a women which had no clothes on. Ultimately the award was wrapped with a handkerchief so that Lataji would accept the award.
