- The subject scenario was always in the offing as the geopolitical and geostrategic churning dictates the future course of action across the extremely volatile neighborhoods directly affecting us. The plan has always been intended to inflict a thousand cuts on the nation’s well-being as propagated by Islamabad-Beijing all-weather friendship. As it stands today, several eventful happenings are occurring on both western and eastern borders posing monumental challenges for the Union Government. The challenge confronting New Delhi is to ensure the situation is handled skillfully and without allowing it to precipitate any further.

- Needless to mention, the very existence of Pakistan largely depends on building confrontational strategies towards India duly backed by terrorism-related activities to disturb peace and tranquility along the borders. It is known that several peace overtures extended by India towards Pakistan in the past have failed to yield desired results. The challenges pose significant concerns for the Indian think tank when the deep nexus between Pakistan and China is solely aimed at further suffocating the nation through such nefarious designs. Added to the conundrum is Beijing’s unprovoked belligerence on the eastern Ladakh region by China resulting in troop buildup, 50 – 60,000 – with accompanying paraphernalia of arms and ammunition to boot.
- Indications emanating from several rounds of diplomatic and military level talks are nothing to cheer about as both sides stick to their stated stands with none prepared to yield an inch. Due credit to the Union Government though for not succumbing to the usual pressure tactics deployed by China, unlike earlier times. With Afghanistan falling into the hands of the Taliban, duly sponsored by Pakistan’s notorious Inter-Services Intelligence, the terrorism theater will undergo drastic changes in the coming days. Make no mistake, Pakistan would want to infiltrate even more terrorists into Kashmir to foment trouble.

- There are already indications to that extent as targeted killings perpetrated by terrorists recently on the minority communities like Hindus and Sikhs in Kashmir valley are proving to be quite irksome. It is assumed that such dastardly incidents are only going to get worse in the coming days throwing a new set of challenges to the Union Government’s efforts at ushering in much-needed changes and normalcy to the long-battered region. Shaken by the intentional killings and despite assurances from the Union Government to ensure their safety, hordes of Kashmiri Pandits are making a beeline to leave the valley for good. These are bad signs indeed.
- The moot point to ponder over here is what does it entail for New Delhi to not only counter these emerging challenges most effectively but also come out with preemptive measures to stay one step ahead of the enemies. Firstly, more than adequate strengthening of the basics like by improving counter-terror intelligence and physical assets like the LoC fencing along the western borders to prevent infiltration. Secondly, to stay patient and resolute on the eastern front by preparing for the long haul knowing fully well that China is unlikely to concede and lose face at the LAC. The vigil and preparedness for any eventuality must be always kept in mind.
