  • As we were growing up, one of the most pleasant, exciting, and feel-good factors surrounding those early years must be summer vacations. Yes, soon after the schools closed for the much-awaited summer break, all of us would be bubbling with anticipation to undertake exciting holidays by visiting native places to be with our loved ones. Those fortunate to have grandparents would never miss an opportunity to spend quality holidays with such loving souls. What a fabulous time those holidays used to be. Nothing can ever provide lots of fun, joy, and effervescence while mingling with several cousins and siblings. The joy-de-vivre cannot be simply explained; one should have experienced the same while narrating lucidly.

  • For most of us, those memories remain as fresh as ever, and reminiscing moments of yore is bound to evoke an inexplicable sense of longingness. Many of us would give anything to have those indelible memories that, sadly, cannot be recreated in today’s fast-paced world. Unlike in the past, when families were large and extended, with many cousins running into the hundreds, modern nuclear families can hardly experience or live to soak in the entirely fulfilling times of yore. Believe me, we all miss those fascinating times when we had plenty of time to freely mingle with our loved ones. The fast pace of today will never be able to replicate the thrilling and leisurely days of the past.
  • Coming back to summer vacations, the king of fruits – mangoes – always formed an inalienable part of us carving out a unique place in our scheme of things. I’m sure there aren’t many people who don’t want to enjoy the juicy/ripe mango in all its glory. And there are numerous varieties to satisfy the palate. Remember how the family elders would discuss the various varieties available on the market and the preparations made to obtain them? Those who had their mango orchard produced a large quantity of the delectable fruit. The thrill of climbing a mango tree to pluck a ripe fruit and partaking in it cannot be expressed in words; it must be experienced in its entirety.

  • For the uninitiated, India alone grows around 1,500 varieties, with the main ones having very loyal fandoms. Whether it’s Dussehri, Alphonso, Badami, Malligai, or another variety, devoted fans will always vouch unequivocally for their favorite. The distinct and complex flavors of different desi mangoes are what distinguishes India. Each region of India produces different varieties, but the distinctive flavor of the fruit remains the most common factor. This reminds me of the famous words of Mirza Ghalib, who said that mangoes must have two qualities: they must be sweet and plentiful. No one in their right mind would ever question or deny what the great Ghalib said about the fruit thousands of years ago. Guys, go for the fruit! It’s nothing short of sublime.
