  • As you are aware, Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on the 26th of July to observe the Indian Armed Forces’ victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war for ousting Pakistani illegal forces from their occupied position on the mountain tops of Northern Kargil District in Ladakh. The year was 1999. And 25 years are behind us since that monumental occasion. For the uninitiated, the Pakistani army initially denied their involvement in the war, claiming that it was caused by the Kashmiri militants. However, documents left behind by casualties, testimony of prisoners of war, and later statements by the then Prime Minister and Pakistan Army Chief pointed to the involvement of the Pakistani paramilitary forces.

  • Recollect how the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had initiated a peaceful gesture of visiting Lahore on the bus route from Amritsar. The peace gesture was met with illegal occupation of Indian heights resulting in the Kargil War proving yet again how the Pakistani Army is dead against initiating peaceful solutions to the long-festering animosity between the two neighbours. Of course, the brave hearts of the Indian Armed Forces not only defended the sovereignty of the country by ousting the illegal occupation of our lands but also thwarted concerted efforts of the Pakistani Army to usurp the land from illegal occupation at such heights. Indeed, several hundred brave soldiers were martyred defending the motherland showcasing the supreme sacrifices.
  • Lots of water has flown under the bridge since then. The grateful country never forgets the immense and supreme sacrifice made by our armed forced personnel by laying down lives while assiduously guarding the sovereignty of the nation. As a mark of respect, Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year in honor of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. The day is celebrated all over India and in the national capital of New Delhi, where the Prime Minister of India pays homage to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India gate every year. Functions are also organized all over the country to commemorate the contributions of the Indian Armed Forces. Yes, the country must remember the brave hearts for making such supreme sacrifices.

  • Just think for a moment, thousands of unknown soldiers have laid down their lives to ensure most of the citizens sleep peacefully, minding their businesses, building business empires, living comfortably with every conceivable luxury at their disposal, under no obligation to pick up a fighting equipment to defend, staying away from families for a prolonged period, and guarding the frontiers of the nation under some of the most inhospitable terrains. Not for nothing it is mentioned that when the nation sleeps knowing fully well that we are protected by those awake brave soldiers braving the harsh weather conditions and against unknown enemies from across the border. A big salute to the proud sons of the motherland. The nation will be proud of you!
