It may sound a bit shocking to many of you, but The International Cricket Council has decided to remove India from Permanent member status. Australia and England were also removed.
International Cricket Council Removes India From Permanent Member Status
1.Shashank Manohar, International Cricket Council chairman; in the first meeting of 2016 came with the decision along with other members of the board that the current system needs to be abolished which was put in place by N.Srinivasan.
2.The board also proposed that a new chairman should be elected by the board for a two-year term starting at the June 2016 board meeting through a secret balloting process.
3.It was also decided that while the chairman would be in office he won’t be allowed to hold any post with any member board and can be re-elected at the expiry of his term with a maximum of three terms.
4. In order to qualify for the election, the nominee should be a past or present International Cricket Council Board director and should also have the support of two full member directors.
5.The Manohar led International Cricket Council suggested a complete review of the changes which was made in 2014 by N.Srinivasan which gave huge powers to the big three in terms of revenue share.
6.The Board agreed to remove the permanent positions of BCCI – Board of Cricket Control in India, CA – Cricket Australia and ECB – England and Wales Cricket Board to allow fair access to membership for all full and associate member directors.
Shashank Manohar said that the changes were being made to make International Cricket Council operations more transparent. He also added by telling that no member of the ICC is bigger than the other and he is determined to make a meaningful contribution in this regard with support of all the members.
