On Wednesday, 3rd February, Toyota unveiled the highly anticipated new Innova Crysta for the Indian market at the ongoing Auto Expo in Delhi. It is likely to go on sale in the next fiscal in the country.

Last year in November, the MPV’s second generation model was launched in Indonesia. And, it is believed that this new Innova is pretty much covering for everything which was lacking on the current model. It is built on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform.
The new-generation Toyota Innova Crysta seems to be bigger and more spacious than the outgoing model. It measures 4,735 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height. And, the wheelbase remains the same at 2750 mm. It is also said to be lighter than the existing model.
Riding on a ladder platform, this new-generation Innova features steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control with rear auto cooler, cruise control, power windows, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, USB and AUX-IN and Bluetooth connectivity. It will also feature a flat third row and captain seats in the second row.

Now coming to design, the new Innova borrows its design cues from various Toyota cars which include the new Fortuner, Camry and Altis. And, with features such as projector head-lights with LED daytime running lamps, a huge hexagonal grille with slats in chrome, all-new fog-lights and a new bumper, Innova’s front fascia looks completely different from the outgoing model.
Talking about the rear profile, this too is looking completely new with sportier new bumper and boomerang shaped tail-lamps. The new Toyota Innova Crysta’s side profile is also looking quite refreshing with new side panels, new wheel arch design and all-new alloy wheels.
Coming onto the safety front, the new Innova Crysta offers airbags across all variants. At the same time, it also offers ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution), and Brake Assist as standard on all variants.
Moving on to the engine options, the new Innova is offering a choice of 2 engines – the new 2.4-litre GD diesel and a 2.0-litre VVT-i petrol. The diesel engine develops 147bhp and 342Nm (manual) and 360Nm (automatic) of maximum torque. While the petrol motor puts out 137bhp and 183Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed automatic and manual gearbox. And, the braking duties are done by the disc brakes up front and drum brakes in the rear.
