1. The Polyester Prince: The Rise of Dhirubhai Ambani- This book is written by Australian journalist Hamish McDonald and was first published by Allen & Unwin, an Australian publisher, in the year 1998. Unfortunately, this book never got published in India. The reason being that the book seems to be staining the image of the Ambani family.

2. The Heart of India- This book is written by Alexander Campbell. It was based on the economic policies of India and was banned by the government in India in 1958. The reason is the book seems to be very repulsive.

3. An Area of Darkness- Written by an Indian author V.S. Naipaul, seems to be showing the image of our country, India, in a negative way. So the book was immediately banned by the Indian government in 1960.

4. Lajja- In India any finger that is pointing on any religion is just equivalent to crime. ‘Lajja’, which was written by Taslima Nasreen, seems to be hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community. 5. The Ramayana- Anything which is related to religion should be handled very carefully in India. However, it seems Aubrey Menen, the author of The Ramayana, did not pay much attention towards this. Menen wrote the book in such a form that seems to be funny and this forced the Indian Government to ban this book in India as it was hurting person’s sentiments who worship and respect the Ramayana.

Indian Government66. The Price of Power- One reason why this book was banned is because of one statement that says “Morarji Desai is a CIA Agent”. Morarji Desai banned this book which was written by Seymour Hersh.

Indian Government7

7. Jinnah: India-Partition-Independence- This book is written by Jaswant Singh. The only reason to ban this book in India is the content of this book seems to be raising sympathy among the people towards the Jinnah.

Indian Government88. The Hindus: An Alternative History- Religion and Humor is enough to raise the controversy in India. Written by Wendy Doniger, this book seems to be portraying Indian Gods in a humorous manner. This single reason is enough to ban this book.

Indian Government9

9. The Satanic Verses- This book, which is written by Salman Rushdie seems to be insulting ‘Prophet’. It got banned in India as well as in other Muslim countries.

Indian Government1010. Understanding Islam through Hadis- The content of this book which is written by Ram Swarup seems to be very harsh towards the Islam. Author talked about political Islam because of which this book has been included in this list.

The most common reason to stop these books from publishing in India is religion. So in future if you are planning to write any book, make sure you don’t hurt any individual’s or community’s sentiments.
