- Irrespective of the eventual outcome of the ongoing five-match Test series between India and Australia, one of the most glaring aspects to emerge would be to see what will happen to a few of the distinguished cricketers representing the game. Indian cricket is bound to witness a transformational change in the next couple of years is stating the obvious. As is the case with any sport and country being represented by marquee players, the transition must occur despite some big names to have played the game may still feel to have some gas left intact to further their already distinguished careers. Indeed, cricket is such a popular and widely followed sport in the context of India that any news surrounding the team makes news headlines invariably.

- People invested in the fortunes of any sport and Indian cricket-crazy fans in particular would passionately voice opinions that would range from plain silly to making imminent sense in equal measure. Of course, every cricket fan in India is an expert when it comes to dissecting the nuances of the game threadbare. Interestingly, some of those opinions are on the button seconding what the experts would suggest. The present Indian team has catapulted the imagination of the cricket fans in India and overseas by performing admirably in the familiar home conditions as well as showcasing their skills overseas too. Little wonder, Team India has become one of the most dominating entities in all formats of the game by consistently winning against all opposition.

- A few of the modern-day great cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja have had a fantastic run at the highest level of international cricket for over a decade and a half. These cricketers have immensely contributed to the task of building Team India with distinction. Looking at a player of the caliber of Kohli, Rohit, Ashwin, and Jadeja would reveal how Team India could emerge as such a force to reckon with while competing around the cricketing world. The ongoing series Down Under in all probability would be the last Test series for these great servants of Indian cricket. Unfortunately, Kohli and Rohit have not been at their consistent best in delivering the goods when it matters most. Look at the statistics.

- Ashwin and Jadeja as spinning allrounders were not expected to dominate the proceedings as they are used to in the familiar spin-friendly conditions back home. The biggest disappointment so far has been the way captain Rohit and the talismanic Kohli have fared in the series. A lot was expected from these two seniors and distinguished cricketers to deliver on expected lines. Save for a hundred in the second innings of the second Test, Kohli has failed miserably. The horrendous form of Rohit with the bat continues and it is burdening his captaincy to a great extent making him look completely lost at times. The transition of Team India will happen, and the selectors must find suitable replacements from the vast available pool of talent to fill in those big shoes sooner.
