- Cricket connoisseurs, experts, fans, and even ordinary commoners would vouch with great passion and conviction about how the India-Pakistan cricket matches used to evoke such strong emotions all around not so long back. The history of animosity between the two neighbours ever since the partition needs no further elaboration. However, the commonality existing between the two neighbours cannot be camouflaged either since cricket or for that matter, sports could be a binding factor helping ease the perennial tension running so visibly. Thus, a cricket match between the rivals used to evoke a very strong sense of patriotism, fervour, and passion, often mirroring the inherent rivalry that has only been exacerbated of late courtesy of cross-border terrorism.

- As we are aware, cricket is a national passion enjoying so much popularity, following, and reach among the multitudes of people from both sides of the borders. The moot point to ponder over here is whether Team India has scaled above Pakistan vis-à-vis the quality of play on display owing to a variety of reasons. Make no mistake, the Pakistani cricket team has lost the hitherto available edge over Team India since some of the marquee superstars of yore representing the former are not up to scratch. When mentioning cricketers like Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Abdul Qadir, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar, it can be easily deduced that these are some of the greats of the game itself having showcased their skills with such distinction over a period.

- Cut to the present Pakistan Team, there are hardly any similarly skilled superstars who could evoke great admiration from the competing teams let alone inflicting fear in the opposition ranks. The present bunch of Pakistani cricketers are competent at best but not good enough to pose a serious challenge to Team India in particular. The much-hyped rivalry between the two teams has become largely a one-sided contest with Team India romping home quite comfortably often. Team India’s domination over Pakistan in ICC-sponsored events is revealing thereby further establishing the fact that we are way above the performance ladder leaving behind the opposition to catch up. From player to player, Team India is simply incomparable to Pakistan.

Players of the caliber of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammad Shami just to name a few are unmatched. Why only Pakistan, the entire cricket-playing nations are aware of the superlative performances of these superstars with such consistency bamboozling the opposition ranks? The question arises about the worthiness of hype being generated by the stakeholders in the media to rev up a contest between the two countries where the contest has lost its edge because of the superiority of Team India. Indian cricket has been on the ascendancy over the last few years needs no amplification. Similarly, Pakistan cricket is left to do the catch up also needs no further explanation. Yes, the hype will remain though.
