  • Indian civilization is millenniums old with a proud legacy of heritage, culture, tradition, practices, and beliefs that need no further elaboration. We Indians are very proud of our inheritance never leaving an occasion to highlight this aspect in no uncertain terms. Yes, we are indeed proud of the fact that such innumerable luminaries, profound thinkers, extraordinary personalities representing various fields, and legatees have graced this holy land immensely contributing to the cause of humanity itself. It is mindboggling to imagine how profound thinking, exploration, quest, and inquisitiveness pervaded millenniums ago leading to the unearthing of such spiritually epochal inventions, innovations, and ideas helping the nation and humanity acquire knowledge.

  • Of course, we Indians are not only religious-oriented observing with absolute faith whatever is chosen but also diligently pursuing with great devotion. We Indians are also known to uphold the tenets of secularism to the core fully embracing the motto of Vasudaiva Kutumbhakam. Agreed, our existence is defined by the labyrinthine caste equations at every step even though the nation has progressed keeping in line with the fast-changing times. Indeed, the nation is still witness to caste, creed, religion, ethnicity, religion, and languages overwhelmingly pervading our day-to-day existence despite clarion calls to treat each of us as equal in the eyes of the law of the land. No wonder, the clamor for quotas and reservations on caste lines persists even now.
  • At the cost of sounding cliched, it can be safely mentioned that the majority of Indians are religious and do not hesitate to wear the same on their person without any inhibitions. Yes, the caste equation is deeply embedded in our collective psyche despite the country’s tremendous progress over the last few decades. Most disturbingly, the bane of corruption too is pervasive in every walk of life as well. One might question what the point of contention is here when religion, legacy, and corruption are being bandied about in the same breath. What is the article attempting to prove by mixing eclectic topics that are significant but largely unrelated to one another? Not exactly unrelated you see since corruption also breeds hypocrisy in us though overtly religious.

  • Most of us are god-fearing people offering obeisance, religiously visiting places of worship, diligently undertaking penance, graciously donating to noble causes, and actively indulging in socio-welfare activities to further the cause of the people. However, the bane of corruption often succeeds in overcoming our noblest and pious intentions prompting us to nonchalantly embrace the same mirroring hypocrisy of the highest order. We are brought up on a steady dose of morality, ethics, integrity, and honorable intentions that are simply lost while participating directly or indirectly in acts of omission and commission. If these acts are not qualified as hypocritical what else is?  Why does such moral turpitude continue to rule the roost? No easy answers can be forthcoming.
