But in few people with tenacious infections, the virus can be deadly and can cause genital warts, or some types of cancer, like cancers of the cervix, penis, anus and oral cavity.
4. All Three Types of HPV Vaccines are working well
There were three types of HPV vaccine available since the introduction of this vaccine in the year 2006. According to the researchers, the clinical trials have shown that all the three work well in preventing HPV infections.
5. Lead researcher Dr. Lauri Markowitz
The lead researcher Dr. Lauri Markowitz said “We are continuing to see decreases in the HPV types that are targeted by the vaccine”, She added that “these declines should lead to reductions in diseases caused by HPV, which include cervical cancer, and head and neck cancer,” “However, it will take decades to see these reductions, because cancer takes years to develop”
6. Reductions will be seen in Decades
As cancer takes years to develop, it will certainly take decades to see such reductions. A decline has been seen in the genital warts according to Markowitz, the next thing they expect to see is a decline in pre-cancers, and later on declines in cancer.
7. Vaccine coverage rates is very low
According to researchers, still not enough young people are being vaccinated which is a matter to worry. They said by far only 22 percent of boys between the ages of 13 and 17 have been vaccinated and 42 percent of girls in the same age range have been vaccinated.
8. Physicians do not strongly recommend the HPV vaccine

9. Children must get vaccinated by age of 12
According to the CDC, by the age of 12 all children should get vaccinated.
10. Vaccine could prevent large percentage of cervical cancers
According to Markowitz, greater declines in HPV-related disease could be seen if there was a greater coverage of the vaccine. Cervical cancers could be prevented by this vaccine and very large number of people could be saved from getting infected.
The results of the study were published online on Feb. 22 in the journal Pediatrics. The data from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys were used to compare rates of HPV infection pre- and post-2006, when the vaccine was made available.
The results of which show a drop from 11.5 percent in 2003-2006 to 4.3 percent in 2009 – 2012, among girls aged 14-19. And similar rates of reduction were noticed in women aged 20 to 24, presenting a drop from 18.5 percent to just above 12 percent.
According to Markowitz, “HPV vaccine is highly effective, We are seeing an impact of vaccination, but coverage rates are still too low. We need to see more coverage to see the full impact of the vaccine.”
