- People closely following the fortunes of the political churnings in the country would have noticed how the parties, irrespective of affiliations/ideologies/philosophies, are constantly looking out for an opportunity to upstage each other. As we know, in the Indian political context, there are two main protagonists: the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, who form the fulcrum. Of course, the communal versus secular, the nationalists versus opportunists, and the often-heard usherers of change versus status quoists dominate the political narrative in the country. Yes, India is a country with humongous diversity spread across a large swathe of land, with each region boasting a distinct culture, tradition, legacy, and history. And politically too.

- As such, the regional political parties representing these regions have an equally crucial role to play in shaping the country’s progress. The world over, we are witnessing changes at lightning speed on the back of some of the most exhilarating cutting-edge technologies, driven by dynamic information technology, making humankind lay their hands on hitherto inconceivable amenities. However, the Indian political class continues to harp on the age-old time-tested quotas, reservations, caste conundrums, labyrinthine caste equations, and freebies dominating our day-to-day psyche. None disputes that the largely agrarian society needs the government to support the oppressed stratum of society to seamlessly merge into the mainstream. But we must move.

- However, rather than look at ways and means to spruce up infrastructure development with great emphasis placed on education, healthcare, law & order situation, and employment opportunities, our political class is making every effort to exploit the cracks in society to further magnify the already muddied waters. Disappointingly, the opposition, which is expected to ensure the ruling dispensation functions optimally, delivering all the promises made as well as guiding the nation on the path of development, has time and again been embracing issues that hardly succeed in cornering the treasury benches. Take, for instance, the Congress-led efforts to stonewall the Parliamentary proceedings by raising the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar.

- It is worth mentioning here that the Congress has simply failed to raise its game to pin down the BJP on several fronts. However, the saffron brigade has skillfully wriggled out of the tricky situations by deft handling from their relentless operational machinery time and again. The opposition parties targeting the Election Commission of India (ECI) by claiming the constitutional body as the agents of the BJP simply doesn’t fit into the narrative anymore. By incessantly claiming Vote Chori but failing to provide related evidence, the Congress is not living up to expectations but merely appears to be obstinate in staying in the limelight. People cannot be fooled anymore by non-issues being flagged as relevant issues. The opposition should raise the game.
