  • The environmental degradation wrought about by rampant fossil fuel burning leaving insurmountable carbon footprints on the global firmament has led to concerned activists, NGOs, governments, and related stakeholders sitting up and taking notice of late. A slew of measures has been initiated over the last couple of decades since global warming as an unavoidable phenomenon started making its presence felt overwhelmingly cutting across geographical locations. The weather vagaries induced by the degradation have been well-documented and the votaries of sustaining clean and green energy requirements for the present and future generations are taking up the cudgel with intent. Is it enough though?

  • The moot point to ponder over here is why humanity always tends to take Mother Nature for granted by indulging in excesses and reacting in a knee-jerk manner when the counterproductive effects start affecting us. Fierce arguments are put forth by environmentally concerned activists to reduce the carbon footprints since greenhouse gases are depleting thereby raising the spectacle of disasters even more. As it is, the weather phenomenon viz. La Nina and El Nina have created havoc around the world when several catastrophic consequences courtesy of global warming have been witnessed quite regularly leading to severe economic damage. The alarming rate with which weather vagaries have battered humanity in the last few years is alarming, to say the least.

  • Unseasonal rains, thunderstorms, snowfall, extreme heat, drought, famine, and cloudbursts are some of the often-witnessed phenomena causing humanity to undergo devastating consequences. Of course, due credit should accrue to the global leadership for initiating measures to help reduce global warming by embracing newer clean, and green technologies. Scientists and environmentalists have been vociferous in disseminating information about how global warming has contributed to erratic weather vagaries which in turn has overturned the agricultural sector itself by disrupting the time-tested crop patterns. There is an urgent need and necessity to reduce fossil fuel burning, especially in the most advanced nations.

  • However, with the inauguration of Donald Trump as the president of the United States of America, fossil fuel burning is at the forefront yet again. Trump has made his intentions clear by stating grandiosely Drill, Baby Drill revealing in no uncertain terms that the US will go full throttle to lift fossil fuels. Trump’s disdain for environmental concerns is not new, and he is in a hurry to make his stated objective of Make America Great Again (MAGA) even at the cost of other countries’ concern for global warming. Humanity must make every effort to ensure our environment sustains the status quo without further damaging the already fragile ecosystem. What is at stake is the livability factor for the present and future generations. Let us be more responsible, please!
