Everybody wants to become a celebrity and some after a lot sacrifices some have achieved their dreams. However, some of them started off well; but later lost their charm and finally ended up being penniless and died out of poverty. Here are 10 of such celebs who lost their fame and name over the period.

 

1) Makhan Singh

Makhan Singh is the same person who had beaten Milkha Singh at the national games in 1962 that was held in Calcutta. He had won silver and gold medals at the Asian Games 1962. Later, he had lost a leg in an accident, due to which his life turned over. He later died in acute poverty in 2002 and his wife had no option but to sell or pawn his medals.

 

 

 

 

2) Shankar Laxman

Shankar Laxman is known for his fantastic goal-keeping skills and is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers who have ever played for the national hockey team. He is famous for his skills shown during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, where India had faced Pakistan. After his career ended, he had to struggle financially and ultimately died at the age of 73.

 

 

 

 

3) Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav

Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav is one of the few persons who had paid for his travelling and hotel expenses to participate in the 1952 Olympics. He had won a bronze medal in wrestling making him the first Olympic medalist (as an individual) from India. He died without a single penny in 1984.

 

 

 

 

4) Fred Tate

Fred Tate was an English batsman. He left the sport very early and became a publican later. His profession as a publican didn’t work and he ended up being bankrupt; he was also accused of stealing milk from someone. He also died without a penny in his pocket in 1943.

 

5) Veronica Lake

Veronica Lake had starred in many Hollywood movies. However, talking about her personal life, she was always being involved with alcohol, mental illness and many divorces. She finally died in 1973 supposedly out of depression.

 

 

 

6) Sammy Davis Jr

He was famous for his role of Mr Bojangles. He had worked at many popular venues and had worked with many of the greatest actors of all times. When he died, he had a debt with the Inland Revenue Service and it is believed he left nothing for his family.

 

 

 

 

7) Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde was a famous author who had gone bankrupt in 1895 and was also charged for indecency by Queensberry. He lost everything when he had gone to jail. He tried to recover his fame through writing again; but failed miserably and later died in a hotel in Paris in the year 1900 without a single penny in his pocket.

 

 

 

 

8) Karl Marx

Karl Marx was a revolutionary and the German political thinker. He is well known for his theories about society, politics and economics, which is better known as Marxism. When he had died, it is known that he had left just £250 to his youngest daughter, Eleanor.

 

 

9) Ulysses S. Grant

He was the 18th President of the United States of America and had become a partner in a financial firm which had later became bankrupt. He died out of throat cancer and had written a memoir to pay off his debts.

 

 

 

 

 

10) Judy Garland

She is best known for her role as Dorothy in the film “The Wizard of Oz”. She was also termed as the greatest entertainer who ever lived by Fred Astaire. Despite all the success, she was a complete failure in real life with many divorces and fought a never ending battle with alcohol and drugs which ultimately led to her destruction and death.
