  • Congress looks to be acting by administration policy ever since taking office following its resounding victory in the Karnataka state assembly elections by securing an absolute majority. Be that as it may, Congress’s win over the Bharatiya Janata Party was not only decisive but also assisted some cunning maneuvers in forcing the complacent saffron party to an unceremonious exit. The residents who voted in favour of the Grand Old Party regardless of caste ratios did take into consideration the five guarantees announced before the assembly elections. To ensure that such pledges are kept without undue delay, it was up to the leadership of Congress.

  • Certainly, we are aware of how the two tallest state Congress leaders, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, fought tooth and nail for the coveted position of chief executive. The Congress’s high leadership ultimately decided to go with Siddaramaiah because of his expertise, administrative cunning, and acceptance among party rank and file. Even though Shivakumar made a concerted effort to curry favor with the top brass, he would not be too dissatisfied with not only obtaining the highly sought-after Bengaluru Development and Town Planning Ministry as well as the Water Resources Ministry and Bengaluru Urban District In-Charge Ministership but also for assuming the position of the Deputy CM. After resolving the major leadership issue, the party could focus on resuming the governing component with fresh zeal.
  • All of the individuals selected to manage the ministries are not only skilled administrators in their own right but also have the necessary insight to advance the governance agenda in an anticipated manner. The opposition ranks naturally had doubts about the Congress government’s ability to raise enough money to support the five guarantee plans introduced with great hoopla. The increased revenue needs were in the neighborhood of Rs 52,000 crore. The CM has already unveiled a record-breaking 14th Budget with sufficient monies set enough to support the five guarantee initiatives. Without a doubt, free bus travel for women seems to be a major success given the rise in travelers, particularly to holy locations.

  • Yes, the free rice scheme did encounter obstacles as the state government could not get supplies from the Centre forcing the administration to dole out cash instead of 5 kg rice out of the 10 kgs promised. Other three schemes viz. free 200 units of power, cash incentives to women head of the family, and monetary assistance to unemployed graduates will be rolled out in the coming days. All ministers are making enough noise to assure the citizens that they mean business and the time alone will indicate how effective were those assurances. Despite the opposition crying foul over failing to kick-start the governance as promised, the government must be credited for making a decent start as of now. Hope the Congress government will sustain the momentum.
