- The international community and leaders must be growing increasingly frustrated with the way the Russia-Ukraine conflict is progressing without any visible signs of a truce. To the global community’s dismay, the conflict has not only kept the world population under tremendous strain/agony, but it has also ensured that the economies of every country are under severe meltdown pressures. Right from the start of the conflict, wiser voices around the world warned the two protagonists about the futility of engaging in a war that would only result in misery. Despite country leaders urging the two nations to approach the situation rationally, the unconcerned protagonists stood firm.

- The United Nations did what it does best by making official pronouncements urging the two parties to come to the peace table to resolve the prickly issues. A few developed nations, led by the United States of America, also made strong pleas to the warring parties not to escalate the conflict. Of course, the United States and other powerful European and Western blocs imposed crippling sanctions to force the Russian leadership to recognize the enormous harm the war is causing to the countries involved as well as the global community. Needless to say, disruptions in global supply chains have had a knock-on effect on every country, with commodity prices skyrocketing in the process. But there is still no respite.
- You name the international forums viz. G7, G20, UN General Assembly, European Union, NATO, and every other alliance, all prominent platforms have urged the warring factions to stop the conflict in unison. However, Russia’s strongman appears to be immune to such calls. We all know how domestic compulsions define every country’s move, despite geopolitical and geostrategic changes that are surreal. As a result, India’s response to the conflict has been cautious, with no explicit condemnation of Russia’s aggression over Ukraine. Remember, India’s reliance on Russia for military hardware, ammunition, and critical spare parts is self-evident.

- Call it a blessing in disguise, the Indian crude supply from Russia too has witnessed a steady ascendency in line with ensuring the domestic requirements are met adequately. Even though several countries raised red flags in response to India’s move, the Indian leadership has maintained a guarded silence, insisting that it is well within accepted international norms. However, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated numerous times that the current era is not conducive to war. Thousands of lives have been lost, billions of dollars in property have been destroyed, and thousands of people have suffered life-altering injuries. However, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues. This insane act must be stopped. But how exactly? This is a multibillion-dollar question.
